I  think Maguire, Evans, Morgan, Benalouane and Amartey if needs must will be enough.

It's only enough if we keep everyone fit. A long term injury to Evans or Maguire, and we've got a rapidly declining Morgan back in the side.

This. We definitely need 1 more - Evans, Maguire, New CB, Hughes/Johnson/Knight would be fine in my book. If Wes stays then it has to be as 4th choice I think, but I wouldn’t be opposed to him moving on for good. Been a hero for us but I think this’ll be one season too far for him.

Amartey will hardly ever play centre-back for us... He's either a defensive midfielder or a makeshift right-back (a good one at that). Anything else would be foolish.

And Benalouane might leave the club this summer, depending on a successful World Cup campaign with Tunisia.

We're definitely at least one centre-back of quality short. Either Elliott Moore is promoted to our first team (due to his achievements with OH Leuven) or we'll buy another centre-back in the transfer window.

Still would like Dragovic but with the Evans signing I think he'd be daft to sign for us. I'm happy with hughes, Moore and the other u23s as CB back up.

He didn't fail here

Failed to get a Pint in Leicester? Seriously though virtually every game we saw Drago, when played in his natural role as a CB, he was very assured and sound. I don't know why he was not the first player signed and £17-£20M is not a risk for someone who has shown he can cut it in the Premier League. I can only think he must have reversed over Claude's cat in the car park.

When i say "fail" i don't particularly mean he was a disappointment on the football pitch but his time at Leicester and Leverkusen will look like a failure because he has failed to establish himself in either side. He has played the equivalent of 23 matches over the last two seasons which would mean he's on the pitch about 30% of the time which won't be what he had hoped for when he left Dinamo Kiev for £16m two years a go.

He's actually performed reasonably well when  asked upon but he certainly wasn't outstanding. A lot of people go on like we refused to play Franco Baresi over Wes Morgan when IMO there wasn't much to split Morgan and Dragovic this season. Dragovic is a better defender but lacks the strength and physicality of Morgan and for me it was a case of apples or oranges.

Agree with all that.  I would add Amartey as CB back up though - even if Puel (and Shakespeare) never gave him much opportunity there.  Oh and Knight - he seems to have gone off the radar a bit, with the emergence of Hughes.

I disagree. Not only did Dragovic look better on the eye, was more efficient with his passing & was equally as good as a defender. He also made the back 4 much calmer and more composed. Maguire perfomed better (on the whole) next to Dragovic.

I'd like another CB.

Puel clearly didn't see dragovic as an improvement on Morgan though so it's unlikely the club would want to pay £20m for him. If we were going to bid I'd assume it would be for significantly less, hence us not enforcing the purchase clause (and obviously drag would have had a say also).

I'd be surprised if it happened now as I'm sure drag will want to be a first choice somewhere to get his career back on track. Presumably he'll have to go down a little to try to rise again.

I know exactly what you mean. Our first two choices are excellent in Maguire and Evans, I have little doubt about that.

Our reserve centre backs we have plenty of options but there is potentially a big drop off in quality from the first team to the replacements.

Morgan could suddenly age at any time.

Benalouane is a an accident waiting to happen

Amartey has never or rarely played centre back for Leicester and there is doubts.

We have some decent academy players in Moore, Knight and Hughes but none of them are probably good enough or ready for PL football.

In an ideal world we would move on Morgan and Benalouane this summer and bring in someone like Hegazi for his £2.5m release clause. Hegazi is a decent PL centre half and cheap.

I disagree. To me, playing as CB for us is his only real long-term option if he wants to stay here.

Not saying he will become a CB sensation over night, but he plays there Internationally and I personally think, he is a lot more suited there with his attributes, than anywhere else for us at this level. He can't pass well enough for a CM and although he has done ok at RB when called upon, we are now looking for RB's who can overlap and actually cross a ball, which he is about as capable as Simpson at.

If we aren't shifting him on, which i don't think we should yet, then I do think we should start thinking of him more of a CB option and have him as 4th/5th choice next season.

Why would Dragovic sign for us now - best he can hope for is 3rd choice which is what he was last season.  He’ll go somewhere where he can play week in, week out.

We could play 3 at the back, which would see Drago play regularly.

I doubt it, but we might...

I wish we did play 3 at the back! Would love drago, Evans and Maguire as a back three with Pereira and either Chilwell or Fuchs as wing backs. (Or indeed a new lwb entirely would be even better).

We would be sound defensively and have additional attacking options on the flanks when needed.

I'd much prefer a back four with Ndidi playing in front of it to drop in as that extra centre half when needed when the full backs are bombing forward.

Now we’ve signed Evans I’d rather promote one of Moore or Hughes if we need a third CB. The 20m it would cost to sign Dragovic would be better spent elsewhere.

This. I also don’t feel bad about Benny as a 4th choice if he stays. He’s not nearly as terrible as people seem to believe, and he can pass the ball decently well.

Foolish? Amartey made team of the tournament at the AFCON playing centre back. I reckon we are missing a trick with him.

I would have liked to keep Dragovic but let’s be honest we’ll be playing with 4 at the back again next season and Maguire and Evans are the first choice CB partnership. We aren’t going to spend £15m on a back up

We do need one more as a back up but it won’t be Drago or anyone close to that price tag

Got a feeling Sam Hughes will be promoted to the first team squad on a permanent basis next season and as much as I think Dragovic is a decent player he isn’t going to spend another season on and off our bench...

Definitely for early cup matches, but I think they will still make sure he's getting decent match time with the U23s. Have to start the progression to first team this year though, otherwise he can rightly question what else he needs to do.
