FFP is an issue because there is a limit there every club is allowed to increase their wage bill by season by season, I think it's a percentage of the wage bill from the previous season. Therefore although we made a big profit on the books (a fair amount of that has already been spent) we cannot just spend as we wish. I think this rule came in 2016 which goes someway to explaining why bumper contracts were handed out to (ageing) title winners when maybe it would've been against financial sense to do so. As it essentially incentivises clubs to increase their wage bill by as much as they're allowed to in order to keep raising their FFP threshold.

It's £7m, but you can pay more if you can prove any increase came from your own improved revenue. ie. player sales, sponsorships, champions league.

Regarding FFP, my understanding is that any increase in wages above 4m from one season to the next has to be financed by extra profit from commercial sales, gate receipts, transfer profits, CL winnings, etc.

I assume that for next season, the baselines will be taken from the season just gone. The profits from 17/18 will be considerably less than those of 16/17 as there were no CL receipts. Therefore wages cannot increase by more than 4m this coming season compared to last.

Perhaps some of the dead wood could be moved on at a loss to just get them off the payroll to comply with FFP, even if that reduces profits further for this season, or results in a loss. At least that would avoid FFP issues.

Anyway, I’m no expert. I may have dreamt all this or made it all up.

It's £7m if you choose your last year as your baseline for comparison. You can select a year as well though, it's either the previous one or three years prior, and it can raise by £19m on that if you go for the three years.

But again you can count your own increases and use that to argue any rise above that. Which invariably we are in a position to do considering how much our income went up.

It makes good sense of those increases, and shows somebody is keeping a watchful eye at the club as far as FFP is concerned if this is the case.

Do bonus payments count towards the FFP rules? We could change Musas wage structure to a 10K payment for every time the ball doesn't travel more than 30 feet with his first touch, save us a fcuking fortune.

So either we are going 3 at the back with wing backs of Ric and Chills (yes please) or Maguire is being cashed in... ?

Or... Finally we are aiming to have genuinely good cover and options from the bench that doesn't diminish our performances

Well that is a weird one!

Find it very strange the player himself has talked about being in negotiations with us... If that is completely untrue!

Wonder if this is just Leicester denying things to the Merc, as to not draw attention to our potential dealings.

Or... Solomon is a big fat liar liar pants on fire! :glare:

I hope we don’t cash in on Maguire @Swan Lesta ?

We're not going with three at the back. Seriously, it won't happen. 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 diamond it is.

The guy's a back-up.

It makes perfect sense that we're not in for this guy.

Our centre back pairing next season will be Maguire and Evans. We have lots of other options at centre back to play back up to these two with Moore, Hughes and Knight from the academy and Morgan, Benalouane and Amartey from the squad. We'll either go with what we have as the back up, sign a young player with good potential or a cheap buy like Hegazi from West Brom with a £2.5m release fee. Spending £15m on a reserve centre half seems ludicrous with the options we have.

You’re right it does make perfect sense. But when did perfect sense ever prevail in the transfer market

Only if you consider them good enough options, which I for one don't!

Although I'm with you that another sort of player would be a better option, the lad @themightyfin mentioned form Forest would make perfect sense in terms of fitting in around what we've already got.

I think it's a risky game relying on back-up from that 6. One of those could easily be starting for us for a pro-longed time if Maguire or Evans get injured, maybe even both!

I agree on the Hegazi deal though. Makes a lot of sense

I agree, there is a big gulf between our first two and the rest. I actually think Morgan was okay last season but unsure if he can be trusted to keep his level this season whilst getting older and not playing. Saying that I'd rather go with what we have than spend £15m on Kvirkveila to be third choice.

Ideally we'd move on both Morgan and Benalouane and then have the option of bringing in Hegazi for £2.5m or a young understudy with big potential like Worrall if he fits that bill.

Although the photo caption states definitively that we are ‘not’ in talks, the article itself states it ‘may not be true’, which is somewhat contradictory.

Watching highlight reels on youtube, he seems like a player who considers any tackle that doesn't take the man for good measure as a poor one. Already my favourite player if he signs.

Got to admire Rudder's commitment to get this one over the line!..

He left Leicester Station yesterday afternoon and travelled through the night,  catching the midnight train to Georgia.

Right, so the devil went down to Georgia then.

Is he looking for a soul to steal?

I reckon we’ve enquired, have a potential deal in place and it’s all subject to if a huge bid comes in for Maguire

We aren't going to be selling Maquire after one season, regardless of the bid
