Thinking of going to local hero this Saturday for the england game  i was wondering if the atmosphere would  be any good there?

I don't think there's ever been anything resembling an atmosphere in the Local Hero. Go somewhere in town instead.

Its a difficult one for me as I don't always like watching big football matches in a pub but then when we win I don't want be stuck in my living room.

Funny you should say that - When we win I'm happy in the pub or at home (preferably the atmosphere of the pub) it's when we lose I don't want to be at home - I remember every Euro and World Cup exit match and remember exactly where I was.... I don't want that association with my lounge!

I used to love to pub atmosphere but as I've got older I'm much more intolerant of people talking shit while I'm trying to watch the game. And WTF is chucking pints of lager all over the place when we score all about?

Nah, it's at home with my kids and a few beers for me.

If it's a last minute winner in a spontaneous celebration I can understand it, but the current trend is just mental. I watched the Panama match in a fairly big chain pub coz I'd heard the atmosphere was good there, and people were just lobbing like full pints that had cost them about five quid after a penalty had been scored FFS. Fvcking banterlads man, they're absolute idiots.

Some places will probably be OK with it, but I guess it just depends on if you get a moody bouncer or not. Maybe Soar Point or somewhere like that?

Been meaning to post this since the World Cup started. Spilling beer can be unavoidable but some people are quite clearly planning to throw their beer about for the sake of 'scenes'. Planning your celebration is a proper shithouse thing to do.

Yep. IMO it comes from social media and TV, who (especially TV news outlets) have made it fashionable. So many large crowds just have cameras pointed at them for the duration of the game. Fantastic for Sky Sports, they can show these on loop as they can't show the action.

To be honest though, I'm surprised many people CAN throw pints, the majority of the people who seem to be in these crowds had their phones out ready to film the "scenes." You'll almost need a whole crew to celebrate a goal soon: one to film it, one to lob the pint and a couple to help create a scene of LIMBZZZZ.

I know I sound like a proper old man, the celebrations after that penalty last night looked brilliant in most of the places. Would love to be there for that moment, not sure I could stand being around people chatting crap for the rest of the time!

Convenient way for people not to lose face and for it not to look like they cant drink as much anymore after a heady day of it.

This is my impression as well. I can remember watching England games in the past and when a goal is scored maybe the odd drink got spilt but now it seems more like a ceremonial "lets all throw a plastic glass full of beer in the air" for the sake of it.

Can't think of anything worse than watching an England game in the pub. Especially the ones near me, which will be full of inbred Melton scallies.

Can't be doing with the plastic patriotism, the Carling spazzes and the BanterLads.

I was worried it was just me. Cutting Room, Black Swan or Welby? Nah thanks.

Hmm what about the Harborough. I quite like it in there now?

Yeah the Harborough is probably good as anywhere. But for me, I don't want to drag my kids down there and I want to watch it with them, so home is best bet I think!
