A carefully put together squad is better equipped for the job than a squad full of what we have at present. But tha'ts just my opinion based on my experiences. We weren't relagated when Pearson used a small squad to win the Championship. I think it was 14 players. It's amazing how players don't get injured when the team is doing well. But with Ndidi, Madisson, and Choudhury we have a good young and exciting trio. Amartey is a useful utility player imo (and a midfielder according to the club). FW - A lot of people to let go here too. I'd rather we let Ulloa go than Slimani, but Ulloa is too old and costly, so I think we end up with him, while offloading Slim (I hope we can). We also need to let Okazaki go, and Josh Gordon won't step up to the seniors. However, it doesn't leave us with many options and I'd really like us to get in a good quality signing to compete with Vardy and Iheanacho. But I think we'll end up keeping Slimani or Okazaki. I'm fairly sure Benkovic qualifies as an Under 21, I think the eligibility date for this season relates to players born after 31st December 1996 (hence Chilwell and Kapustka, just miss out). Benkovic's birthday is 13 July 1997. So, the 25 man squad shown above works well. I think the only question will be, whether Puel wants to give the 'fourth spare slot' to Simpson, King or Elder. He is 'expected' (!?) to be due back from his Achilles injury in mid-September - according to the Physioroom website. They also say Mendy is due back from a 'muscle injury' next week. Can’t we get keep King and just not register James? Let’s face it, he’s not going to contribute much this season (as sad as that is, for him personally). He’s had zero pre-season. He might as well build back this season in our reserves. Or, couldn’t we let King, Benny, Simpson, Kapustka go AND not register James AND sign free agent Hatem Ben Arfa! Even better.
