What is it that we're missing?

Fair comment, and perhaps you're right. I'd be curious to see a heat map of each player's average positioning for the last 3 games to verify this. @StriderHiryu whatever happened to your tactics thread? Found it fascinating but bet it takes quite a bit to put together so frequently.

You don't need heat map for 3 back issues. Just watch the match with the aid of commentators. Its very obvious.

But if you wanna know where is nacho and madison, thats when you use heat map.

I consider myself pretty observant - I didnt see Newcastle so cant comment on that game but saw much of the everton game

I didn’t notice us playing three at the back in general - maybe at times amartey covers around as the back two shuffle across to cover chilwell - Ricardo drops deeper and it may have a 3- look about it but that’s not actually playing three at the back with wing backs

Againts Everton, When we build the attack from our defender, there are 3 flat defender. Morgan in the center, maguire in wide left, almost like left back, while amartey is bit narrower.

You see it as not like back 3 with wingback. Well chilwell sat very high so often so he's not that often caught on camera when we built from the back. But Ricardo does exist

If we do well for the rest of this season we’d  would look back to now and say we were close but not quite there. If we do badly we will look back and say the warning signs were there.

What this tells me is that our inconsistency could go both ways and it’s too early to know for sure. However, I’d say the strong financial backing of our owners will pay dividends eventually so even if the season goes badly they’ll keep investing until it comes right.

A few seasons back we had Fuchs and Luis Hernandez taking throw-ins, both of whom offered the option of a good long throw.  I know its only a small thing, but this is one tool that we don't have in the toolbox at the moment (for all his other strengths, Chilwell sometimes seems downright uncomfortable taking a throw-in in the opposition half).  I've noticed that Ndidi often takes throw-ins for Nigeria, and appears to have a decent long throw.  Is there any reason why we couldn't add another attacking option and let him take the odd throw-in for Leicester?
