It’s not a requirement for a mod to be impartial with their views and opinions but to be fair with any moderating that is needed.

Sure, but he wasn’t.

Who remembers the webbo for mod movement?

That must have been before when I first joined.  What happened then?

Well it’s difficult to judge without ones own bias affecting your views. I’m sure if it was significant someone would have complained or Mark would have said something. I’m not aware of any ‘official’ complaint

So you agree then?

You may not have noticed it, Alf, but he treated his ‘friends’  - those who shared his political and world view - differently from those who didn’t, in terms of which posts were deleted and which weren’t. Certain people got away with posting things that others didn’t.

Furthermore, much of what he posted was undisguised trolling, something he got away with because he was the mod charged with upholding the forum rules.

I'm guilty as charged of poor English there. I meant that I didn't notice any partiality, obviously.

No, I didn't notice political friends being treated differently from political foes - and given that Webbo and I are mainly political (but hopefully not personal) foes and sometimes had fierce disagreements, I'd have expected to have been a victim of such bias if it had been occurring. If other people were unfairly having posts deleted, I'm afraid that I didn't notice it.

I do sometimes find his posting style annoying - lots of one-line rhetorical questions, rather than arguing a case. But I just see that as part of the way he argues, not as trolling. I'm sure some people find my posting style annoying - verbose, excessive detail, "arguing like a lawyer" (as my ex put it), deadpan humour, smartarse comments....c'est la vie!

We're probably all being too serious here. Knowing this isn't the pigeon thread, here's a shoebill:

I'm totally oblivious. I had no idea any of this was happening. I guess keeping out of the politics thread was a smart move for me, I'm an argumentative twat anyway.

That's not just you fella, every bloody one of us are twats...Now argumentative..???  No real snowflakes on here ,we all stear clear of good honest pure banter,

and dive headfirst into the sees pit of  various litigious...disputatious...contrary..polemical..truculent exchanges, just to prove we are all the best of mates,

That would never dream of being complaisant...agreeable,...amenable,going for a pint or just posting would then just be plain boring and pointless...

We just couldn't enjoy the glad-tidings,and seasonal once a year pleasantness....one has to save up and earn it....:yahoo:

Smart move for me to eschew the politics thread too - some toxic shit in there ( by which I mean opinions with which I disagree)

I spent a lot of time in the Politics thread and enjoyed it BECAUSE I'm an argumentative twat! :D

You mean he didn't agree with your point of view

Had I have meant that, that's what I'd have said.

Can't say I agree with you on this @Buce - always thought Webs was very good at not letting partisan bias interfere with his modding duties and allowing the conversation to flow. Indeed it's only since he disappeared that I had a perfectly benign comment highlighting the flaws in someone's fairly hard-right post deleted (along with the original I should add).

If I could be bothered, I could provide numerous examples to the contrary, but I've wasted more than enough time on this pointless thread already, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Pointless ? ...   without Webbo the politics thread, on which lots of you love to rabbit on about brexit, has gone ...    I’m trying, in a lighthearted manner to get him back so said thread may come back too.  He also seemed pleasant witty and intelligent to me and I enjoyed reading his posts.

However, I know you disagree (and I know why cus you’ve told me) but not sure why you are slagging the thread itself off ...   if you must go can you take lifted with you ..  ta.

The one chuffing day I chose not to read the politics thread and it disappears to be replaced by some random bird thing which I’m obviously not clever enough to understand!
