cityfanlee23 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Analysis of tonight - As a team: Overall I thought we played well and had them pinned back on the counter many times, they put us under pressure but looking at their squad it really is not surprising. In terms of performance I was pleased, off the ball transitions were good, players tried to create spaces for eachother (which is not easy against a side this good) and we moved the play around sensibly, first half we had no clinical edge and really struggled to get it into iheanacho in space and were closed down very quickly by the high press. Second half I thought we dominated large parts of the game and the substitutes really made a difference and we had them very worried. Individually: Claude Puel - Really pleased with him tonight, he changed formation and tactics as were required, we soaked up pressure well in defence and pressed forward on attack well (although at times there were few options, I feel we need another box to box mid) he made the right subs at the right time and very nearly pulled off a great win with a weaker squad against one of the best teams in the world, some short disappointing periods in the first half when soaking up pressure but overall we looked well drilled and our positioning in transition looked good. His reaction to the goal was great, so much passion and I really feel he believes in his players and the club. I'm still Puel in. Ward - Did well tonight and made some good saves, was helping organise the defence often Simpson - Did okay, did not really do much at either end but covered himself well. Maguire - Bit of pressure tonight as the captain and looked comfortable Soyuncu - A few dodgy moments and never really looked settled but he got the job done - Needs time Fuchs - Did well in the tackle but his passing was utterly atrocious tonight, really let himself down in that regard and that penalty........ Chilwell is definitely #1 Ghezzal - Spent his time on the pitch completely isolated with most of the play in the middle and on the other side of the pitch, could not do much but moved into spaces and tried to make tackles Choudhury - Played really well overall although he did make a few mistakes in the game, needs time but should definitely be fighting for a first team place based on tonight. Iborra - Was okay, really did not do much, was slightly more effective playing behind Iheanacho than in midfield where he was largely a passenger (KDB is unplayable let's be honest) Ndidi - Another that had an okay game, was solid in the tackle but passing let him down a few times tonight, did not really do much in the transition. Gray - One of our brightest players, moved well into channels and created space, and to my shock left walker for dead in a race??? I knew he was quick but **** me! Iheanacho - Really disappointing, He's probably kicking himself tonight, reports and rumours suggest he's great in training but just cannot do it on the pitch, not good enough at present. Subs: Albrighton - what a goal, energised and creative, ran at players and had confidence, passing was great and changed the dynamic of the game Maddison - Did fine, not much to note as he was so crowded out in the midfield but he held the ball well and tried to create space with quick passes Ricardo - Him and albrighton worked well together and really lit the game up, did well. The penalties ****ing disgraceful.

Regardless of what you say about him, he would at least be able to look back at his time and say he did something Klopp and Potch haven't yet done and that's win a trophy. Maybe outside the club but a significant amount of the fanbase will never take to him no matter what he does. Winning a League Cup isn't going to make him hugely popular.

alanf0x Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 At least half the first team will have had a night off and will be fresh for 3 points at Chelsea. Just like when we rested a few at Fulham ready for spurs...

Much improved 2nd half performance but we could have won that in 90 mins with the likes of Ricardo, Albrighton and Maddison in the starting line up. Great performance from Choudhary. Because that is the reason we didn't beat one of the best teams in the world... Apart from Vardy's pace, I don't think anyone could have changed much. I am not a big fan of Simpson but thought he did superb defensively. Puel obviously wanted to keep it tight. Going all out attack has the potential for teams like Man City to punish us. Remember that Spurs 6-1?
Gevans_97 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 An 11 was chosen. Regardless of what you think about the decision, that 11 (and subs) drew 1-1 with Man City. the players are at fault for the penalties. there’s no guarantee that we would have even made it to penalties with a different team. Give credit where it’s due. We’re all uncertain about Puel but people are just finding reasons to blame him for everything, it’s becoming boring.

Stringer is a shit stirring twat who wants controversy around the manager because it gives him more of a voice. There's a good reason the players stopped talking to him 4 years ago, and the sooner the Beeb bin him off the better. Not even as if he's half way competent as a commentator. Listen to the commentary and you get more of an idea about his fashion sense and what sandwich he's got today than the game

SuperMike Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Goodness! In over fifty years of supporting Leicester I have rarely seen such an abject performance as Iheanachos today. Probably only Junior Lewis and Kelvin Etuhu could compare. How much did we pay Man.City? Wow! Unbelievable.

Deja vu from last season. You argue either way. They played two players out of the cold - the rest in and around the first team squad/played in recent weeks. Including two players who are probably in the very, very best (probably wouldn’t have played in other circumstance)

Okazaki should of started ahead of ihanacho. Maddison should of started ahead of iborra. The only good thing I can give CP is Hamza he was fantastic tonight But they also have had bad games, and not been at the races.. like many on here you cry out because Puel hasn't selected your favourites.. but jesus...again !!? nobody has been performing....!!! IMO your selections are also shite... we have silly cra p arguments, and split hairs on team selection...Ffs 15 games and nobody deserves to be Automatic choice.... and there isnt...A.... "Well they look better, they are all failing,to deliver good footbal l at any consistent level. At present we could put Maguire up front and Vardy at 5.....it wouldn't make a damn difference..Simpson had a good game in my view.. Ricardo was being shouted down not 6 games ago...

I’ve had the unpleasant experience of meeting the bloke - he’s so arrogant and narcissistic, he wants to source his own stories in some mad hope that 5Live have him on the next day. He needs to remember the BBC Leithian values. There’s a place for the ilk of Stringer and it’s not on the BBC.

That lineup they put out would easily qualify for Europe in the league.
