Yes, I saw that, too. Wouldn't have been great publicity - and not great conduct, obviously - but not something to disqualify someone from public office, unless it was something that happened multiple times (no suggestion of that).

Was 6 years ago, too. We shouldn't be aiming to only be represented by saints or we'd lose out big time in terms of ability.

After all, it seems likely we're about to get a PM who got sacked for fabricating quotes by his godfather, got sacked by his party leader for lying about his extra-marital affair & mistress's abortion, accused football fans of causing the deaths at Hillsborough without evidence - not to mention his many political lies & grandiose money-wasting vanity projects (water cannons, garden bridge etc.).

Meant humorously, I'm sure, but a little chauvinistic, no? In the tweet that you linked to, she says that, although the incident was triggered by a lost cable (only just noticed the irony.....Cable :D), it came when their relationship was struggling.

She says she had her ex's permission to say what she's said - if she really was a bunny boiler, I don't suppose he'd have agreed to that - or would have protested publicly if she'd explained it inaccurately?

We all know Boris is a bit of a tosser, but I still think things are far worse when you step across the line into physical.

I don't want saints either, but I don't think we would see a man leading a major political party if he had been arrested to slapping his wife across the face in an argument and in 2019 we have to treat these things easily.

Yeah it was supposed to be humorous and it is chauvinism - cheerfully withdrawn.

Fair dos.

I still think there's some male/female differentiation on the sliding scale of seriousness with physical violence, due to men generally being bigger and physically stronger.

Re. seriousness I'd say, roughly: F slaps M once < M slaps F once < F slaps M on several occasions < M slaps F on several occasions < F punches M once < M punches F once < F punches M several times < M punches F several times etc.

Of course, it would be different if a big, strong woman was hitting a physically or psychologically weaker man - and ignores the whole issue of psychological bullying by either partner etc.

I'm not sure I agree with you but what self-respecting man hasn't been slapped at least once in his life by the woman he loves unless he's such a misogynist that she is too frightened to do so? Unless it's the same man who has never laid a finger on anyone else nor killed an insect or eaten meat.

There can be a difference between a slap and conjugal violence.

Personally I think many of the things that BoJo has done are far worse - plus he's a moron.

I'd rather she became lib-dem leader than he became the leader of the country.

I agree with you about Boris' past actions & unsuitability. I was about to comment on them, but avoided it as I thought it risked causing a shrill, tit-for-tat left v. right argument (with others, not Matt).

I don't think I've ever been slapped by a partner, not even during my marriage breakdown - and haven't slapped a partner either. Have been told to get out, been yelled at and had things thrown in my general direction - and have yelled, ranted, punched doors & thrown objects across the room (not at anyone).... :S

What about if a little man slaps a strong woman?

I can’t think of anybody that’s less like their internet persona in real life!

So, in real life @Dr The Singh is a tall, white-skinned blonde woman, teetotal and asexual, a ballet fanatic who has never heard of Benefits Street, has an irrational hatred of Sikhs and the Punjab, but loves Jeremy Corbyn & President Modi and absolutely never vomits on his shoes?

Completely agree with you - I'll always find a man hitting a woman more grotesque than the other way around for the reasons mentioned, old fashioned but it's not a belief I can be educated out of.

But my opinion doesn't mean I'm right and it appears society is moving away from my opinion on this as equality is paramount and if that is the case then everything does have to be treated the same.

I don't want to be that guy, but can we get back to the more important stuff?

I'd like to hear more about @FIF's rough sex conjugal violence.

All women like rough sex don't they? In my experience.

We could turn this thread into the the tinder FTers would be jealous of and they'd never know.

Obviously I can't speak for all women, but yes I do. I like to feel subservient, I don't believe in equality as I don't think we are equal, but I recognise that this is probably better in the unpopular opinions thread. In fact I think I've posted similar before.

So, to sum it all up. Domestic abuse is wrong but for some it’s worse than others. However the rules do not apply as long as you have a hard on?

Yeah Matt P having rough sex is not something I really want to think about.

It's all Conservatives.

Imagine the seeing to Jacob Rees-Mogg gives Helena......

It's been a weird day - I've spent most if it trying to get @Alf Bentley song about Marc François out of my head.
