Sod all this praising Liverpool by the pundits.

If Villa win by seven or eight, Liverpool's young 'uns get a demoralising defeat, and are less likely to be blooded and so this hinders the development of their squad.

It still feels a bit "pinch me" to say it like this, but Liverpool are our rivals at the top of the league, and anything that hurts them helps us.

They're just going "stats show that Liverpool were better" crap. Yeah Liverpool look better on the ball but haven't been able to defend or get a decent number of decent chances. Its all well controlling the game but you need to be clinical otherwise whats the point of the possession?

**** Liverpool. I've just realised how much I despise them. What a horrible club. Even Villa fans deserve better than this.

Barely a mention of them despite winning 4-0, bonkers isn't it?

It's bang out of order. It's Villa's fault for not pushing forward to score more that it is such a non-event apparently.

Neyland has been good for Villa in goal

Was just about to say the same. Made 2 or 3 top class reaction saves

The one in the first half from Elliot’s shot was the best. Needed some saving that he hit it hard.

The one with his foot was impressive. Usually see those go in

They are getting thrashed; nothing good here, total disrespect to the competition

Its not though is it, they’ve been put in utterly shit situation caused in part by the ridiculous amounts of fixtures the money men expect top level clubs to play this time of year. If you want to moan at anyone moan at them.

Liverpool's shirt numbers are ridiculous. 68, 77, 78, 99 etc. It's like watching NFL

@foxfanazer Heaton and this kid on the bench if they do go down it won’t be for lack of quality in net

Isn't the CWC invitational?

I’m pretty sure you can not enter any cup competition if you don’t wish too. Man U’s FA cup withdraw for example. Don’t see what your getting at though.

Can’t believe the amount of criticism I’m seeing for Klopp and Liverpool tonight, not sure what else anyone expected them to do!

People talk of leaving 5/6 senior players behind for this, how do you chose which players?

They then potentially miss out on a world club cup winners medal? This has a chance of causing some disharmony in the squad.

Really can’t understand why, if the EFL want people to take this competition seriously they put the quarter finals at the busiest time of the year? Surely that’s asking for all clubs to play a second string. Have them in late Feb semi in March and a final on Easter long weekend.

The issue is the PL btw for clarity not either of the cup competitions.

If we weren’t all kicking off every 48 hours for two weeks they might have felt they were in a position to accept the postponement they were offered on this game.

More difficult than it sounds that due to international, European, fa cup replay and midweek league fixtures.

That is what I meant, not Liverpool themselves... the whole thing

Man Utd got preferential treatment years ago being allowed to miss the FA Cup when they played in CWC (think after 1999 CL win?)

I agree - they shouldn't get preferential treatment and it's the price to pay of success that more games will follow.

They were not "allowed" they basically withdrew from the competition as the FA would not re-arrange. (also if i remember rightly didn't Man Utd once get fined back then for fielding an under strength team at some point). It was more a case of them sticking two fingers up the the FA as they gave them an ultimatum,of either let us re-arrange so we can play our first team or we won't play. Liverpool were basically told that they had to honour the fixture or withdraw, giving Villa a bye. As they were contractually committed to this CWC thing they had little option but to field the kids. Under current premier league squad rules (25 senior players plus unlimited U21s) they are not breaking any rules by doing this. It is theses squad rules that now allow clubs to basically put out reserve/youth teams in the cups, hence why the perceived value of these competitions had plummeted in recent years.
