Phube Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 We have conceded only four penalties this season. Of the four penalties we have conceded, all have been awarded when the score was level (at various times in the match). We have lost only four games this season; all have been in the games we have conceded a penalty in. Now Liverpool Away was last minute and gave us no time to get back, but the rest seemed to have completely stopped any momentum we might have had just prior. Is this a complete coincidence, or a something more sinister?
Aus Fox Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 Look at the teams who have been awarded penalties against too. Liverpool (2) One highly contentious, one could have been given either way. Man City at Eithiad - Was contact but debatable. Man Utd at Old Trafford - was contact but not a penalty for me

Brainy Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 No more of a coincidence than us having conceded more goals than the opposition in every game we've lost

Facetiousness aside, the fact we have only lost games we’ve conceded a penalty in is quite interesting.
Brainy Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 sorry, I don't think there's anything to it although its curious that we've only conceded penalties against Liverpool/MC/MU ( @phube )
TonyN11 Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 Think we should have a nominated penalty conceder. They are currently spread out - Soyuncu 2, Albrighton, Ricardo. I recommend we nominate Danny Ward

HybridFox Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 If anything I think it shows our naivety in managing games. The supposed "handball" aside, the other penalties have all been of our own doing and not defending smart enough in those situations. Sometimes I wish we'd just put in row Z than foolishly playing out from the back.
shailen Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 Man City, Liverpool home and man utd away, we set up with the wrong tactics. The penalties were just a coincidence in those games. Liverpool away was just unlucky, and we deserved a point from that game, but were unlucky.
brucey Posted 28 December 2019 Posted 28 December 2019 It might be a side effect of how Rodgers asks the players to set up against the top teams?

I mostly agree...I'd just add that the current laws are out of kilter. Liverpool (h) is the best example for me. If that's a pen then the law is wrong.
Fightforever Posted 28 December 2019 Posted 28 December 2019 Sinister maybe who but knows bar those at Stockley park we didn't deserve to win a single one of those games anyway so forget about it
dylanlegend Posted 29 December 2019 Posted 29 December 2019 Mainly cos those teams (man city + Liv) have attacked us much more than other teams so we are more likely to concede pens v them!?
surrifox Posted 29 December 2019 Posted 29 December 2019 I know this is about pens conceded but apparently we have failed to convert 19 out of 66 PL penalties awarded with only Villa Middlesbrough and Blackburn missing more .its been a bit of an issue for us and even Mahrez and JV are guilty of missing. I think most people in the crowd could have taken a more convincing penalty than DG yesterday these guys train all week surely they should be better than this

Too small a sample to be statistically significant mathematically, if it becomes 20-25 occasions then there may be some cause to ask the question, as it stands--coincidence.
justfoxes Posted 24 January 2020 Posted 24 January 2020 That last minute mane penalty 🤬🤬🤬 the theatrical dive him then clutching the opposite leg that was allegedly touched shows VAR has helped Liverpool a hell of a lot this season, there was a column a few months back that stated using ex players rather than dodgy refs to sit in for VAR but not ex players who have had affiliation to clubs playing for them ! We’ve been on the receiving end of a few dodgy decisions where we should of had a penalty or dodgy given against us, We all thought VAR would stop dodgy penalties being harshly given but it’s still controversial at times really needs overhauling !!
