In my opinion yes. Yours no. You can’t have everyone share the opinion. Can you actually talk me through the difference in this signing and the Trincao one? Other than you’ve seen McNeil play? He’s an example. You don’t know the ins and outs of his contract. Perhaps he has some sort of release clause? Meaning he can leave for certain price to certain clubs. I have no clue I am but a humble fan of football not some inverted winger messiah.

Happily talk you through it.

Dwight McNeil, played 2 seasons in the PL aged 20. Scored 5 goals and 11 assists in 60 games. 3 Europa League games with nothing to report, Burnley were muck and didn't qualify for the group stages. Won 3 caps for England U21's but baring in mind he played every PL game last season he has been ignored in the most recent U21 internationals. Very strange. Burnley would want north of £50m for him.

Trincao, aged 20 too. Just won his 1st cap for a star studded Portugal side, last season made 5 U21 caps for Portugal. 33 league games 8 goals and 8 assists, 6 Europa League games 1 goal and 2 assists. Agreed a move to Barcelona in January for 30m euros (£27.9m).

More goal contributions in just over half the amount of games but let's agree that the Portuguese league is of a lesser standard. Let's even suggest they have the same ability, one has gone to one of the biggest clubs in the world for about half what Burnley would command for McNeil and one is a full international already whilst the other is being ignored for the U21's which side is inferior.

Can you not see why I am wary of buying average players from our division?

How about Dwité McNilez? Highly thought of 20yo Algerian winger from french lower league side Burnlé? The thinking man’s choice

Only an 8th of the price as well, worth a punt and use the rest of the dough to strengthen other weak areas. Congerton is learning fast.

What you and many others failed to grasp though was, the chances of McNeil aged 20 with 4 years left on his contract was never going to be available for £30m. They want £50m for Tarkowski with less than 2 years on his deal who is nearly 28.

McNeil would set us back north of £45-50m minimum and that would be astonishing for such an average player. The lad can't even get in the England U21's which has to be more than snobbery, I don't get it.

Comparing him to England's wingers is a bit daft considering the ridiculous young talent England has on the wings.

McNeil might well cost £40m (he wouldn't) but England has players like Hudson-Odoi, Sessegnon and Saka who would all cost north of about £80m.

You honestly think Burnley would sell for less than £40m?

I dont get the argument about people turning their nose up at mcneil and tarkowski for 30m - no way Burnley would sell them for that price. If they were available I think most would be happy to take them.

I think they'd have a hard time turning down 30-35m yeah.

Just as I think Tarkowski will go for 35-40m as opposed to the rumours of £50m.

Burnley have already turned down £30m for Tarkowski.

I can't think of many PL players that clubs didn't want to lose, even some of the mediocre clubs that agreed to selling their players for such a price in recent years. Maybe if there's a release clause like us with Perez but I don't see them letting him go for less than £50m which is why I'm so against this. Even at £30-35m I'd wince and have a huff.

Depends on the player. We accepted £50m for a player who is further ahead in his development and more desireable for clubs.

Yeah but £30m is less than £35m-£40m.

With guaranteed further instalments and potential add ons don't forget. I just can't think of too many similar domestic PL deals that have happened at £30-35m recently. They'd want more and there's better players available for much less. Ultimately its not our money but i don't want to be arguing on here with folk when we still have weaknesses in our side but can't rectify them immediately because we've done all our bunce on the likes of McNeil, it's unnecessary.

OK, do you think they would sell McNeil for the same price as Tarkowski? I don't and thats why I'm wafting about figures of £50m as at the very least they want £35-40m for Tarkowski (your words) with less than 2 years on his deal approaching 28 years of age.

I think Tarkowski is much more important to Burnley than McNeil is.

I’d definitely take the both of them if they available for a combined fee of 70 million.

They must think we’ve signed Castagne as a replacement!

Perhaps we have ..... but they’re a year early at least .... maybe they could pay a loan fee for sept/October ??

They are negotiating with Cagliari for Ounas but the Algerian likes Leicester better. However, Verona likes Amin Younes a lot. Napoli are looking for a way out for both players, outside of Gattuso's project.
