I don’t see it going till Saturday without some sort of strong lockdown... even the players are spreading it between themselves now

I don’t think a lockdown will include sport not continuing again to be honest.

Seeing as the Oxford vaccine only got approved last week and it's fallen over Christmas, does anyone here know anyone who has received communication to receive a vaccine, say for this week or next?

My mum

One rule for the elite and anogher for us? How do they think it makes us feel when they're all hugging and we're frowned upon for having human contact?

Also, I don't care if they're tested weekly or not.

There’s no point shutting it down if regular testing is being done. Football can be managed, very much like a workplace. Flip your argument around and they could say why can’t we go to work when there are people in factories?

So far football has conducted itself really well, there’s no need to stop it if they’re managing it. Any potential outbreaks are managed well games are postponed and rearranged.

Stop moaning, there the only ones that are keeping us all sane

Certainly not keeping me sane. I'm constantly thinking I'm not allowed to see my family but James Maddison is allowed to go and hug Jamie Vardy. Do me a favour.

Think it's a generational thing. A lot of secondary age parents are if the social media generation and their kids are an extension of themselves.

I want to say you're wrong but I'll give you two examples.

Child 1 - noisy, obnoxious, tries to sleep in class and tells a girl in class he's going to batter her if she doesn't shut up. I call up his mum and say. "Unfortunately, little Johnny's behaviour wasn't good today. He shouted at a girl he's going to batter her and we don't condone that behaviour, especially not from a boy to a girl." Mum's actual reaction: "Are you sure? I'll ask him."

I'd say mum was about early/ mid 30s. Boy was 12/13.

Child 2 - lovely kid. Not the brightest but gives it a go. Off self-isolating for a couple of weeks and I and other teachers upload stuff to Teams for him to access. We can see what he's looked and, tbh, I expected him to either submit it or bring it in when he returned. We get an email from deputy head saying mum is angry because we're not giving him work. So I check and see he's been accessing some of it. I call mum and tell her I'm really pleased he's trying even though he's off and I can message him directly about the work, as it can be tricky to find it if he doesn't know where to look.

Mum - "I don't agree with that. I don't appreciate you saying that. It's not that he's not looking it's that the work isn't there. I don't need to be told you're pleased with him."

I somehow managed to bite my tongue and not tell her that I was actually looking at his profile as we spoke and could see exactly what work he'd been looking at. Needless to say, he didn't bring it in when he came back and he never responded to the message I sent him.

I don’t think that would settle well with the public!

Well it did at the end of the last lockdown. The issue is when the players are dicks, at least Ben Mendy got his “big bummed Latino”

Yeah I see it all the time, that’s why avoid all the social media groups related to the school. It’s toxic.

They’ve been few and far between, theres probably been more incidents of people breaching the rules at my work then there is amongst the footballers.

I avoid it for everything other than football..... so many toxic environments found via social media... and utter bollocks.

IME, ambulance staff have to self test every 2 days that they're on duty. My mate had a negative test 2 days before she had a positive one. Self testing is the in-line swab test which is only 50-60% accurate. One test per week won't give any indication if a player is Covid-free on the day they play.

People are dicks* but I do agree with you.

Why would anyone want football to be stopped? It’s the only thing currently to look forward to come the weekend. A bit of normality, something else to talk about instead of hearing about fvcking covid every hour of the day.

@Harrydc I’m sure if football stopped again for 4 weeks you’d then start moaning about how footballers don’t have to play matches but supermarket staff still have to go into work.

Another 50000 cases, what’s going to happen when everyone’s had it?

I find it odd that our mutant variant is leading to such a dramatic increase in "cases" everywhere in the UK and all at the same time.

Now surely, surely something untoward is at play here?  There's no way that's a natural increase.

Source of the data here has been taken straight from govt figures also.  No misrepresentations here.

I think this is a stupid question lol...

If someone tests positive on day X and then tests positively again in the next few weeks after that, does that add as another positive case to the daily tallies we see or not?

I'm not against footballers playing football. It's more the fact of we have to be locked down, then so should they.

Yes I know it's petty.

Any further covid experiences? Mild or severe cases?

As an nhs (not frontline) worker I'm hoping to get my vaccine(s) before this new variant inevitably gets me, I still get anxious about what it'll be like (the virus not the vaccine).

They are locked down but they can still work.   Just like people in factories did, just like supermarket workers did, just like people who work in petrol stations did.

If there is a full lockdown people can still go to work. Football is their job.

I disagree. Where things can operate safely they should do. Work, football and exercise. Plus football is probably contributing to the economy in some way anyway with all of the TV deals and what not.

Fact is we simply can’t just shut down, the economy is ****ed as it is, a complete lockdown again would probably damage it for a very long time. And football certainly offers a release, I think I can speak on behalf of most on here that the footie has been a god send, and days like today make it just that little bit easier to face the shit that’s going on around us thanks to those boys in blue.

Plus psychologically it acts as an indication that normality will one day resume.

Out of reactions but I'd +1 this if possible!

Agree with all of it. Especially the psychological point. Football was a release for me anyway even pre-COVID. Either playing or watching. It goes without saying it's not anywhere near the same as actually going to a match to watch us play, but the fact we can still watch from home for now is great because there's something to look forward to. And as long as it remains to be played in a safe way (yes I know there's lot of breaches recently but for the most part it's fine given the volume of testing they do) then it should carry on.

Wouldn’t suprise me if he put everyone other than London in tier 3 so they open other little bits up and then say you can keep schools open now
