With good reason.

I can just picture Hancock, Johnson, Rees-Mogg and co sat around a room throwing ideas around and Hancock getting a pat on the back when he declares '10 year prison sentencing for COVID holiday liars' to a chorus of 'Yes and ho'.

If it makes you feel better, imagine away.  Of course what actually happened is they found an existing law they think they can apply, then told the press the maximum sentence for that law knowing full well it would make headlines and appeal to the seemingly more than 50% of the population who are madly pro every restriction on our liberty.  I am increasingly dismayed at the people who would continue this lockdown shite after pretty much everyone at risk is vaccinated.  They should be unlocking now!

My wife’s cousin is one of the Lockdown forever types. She’s all over the Leicestershire Live comments every time they run a COVID story calling for more restrictions and saluting the Police when someone is fined.  Thing is she has been on full pay since March without working and her lazy boyfriend has been on the sick forever pretty much.  she’s quite content spending all day on Social Media and he is happy playing his XBox for 14 hours a day.  This new normal suits them perfectly.  I fear she’s not in a tiny minority.

Guess it will get to a point when first jabs decrease and second jabs increase, maybe from early March onwards?

Yeah, i mean technically we should be seeing 200-400 second jabs a day. I imagine it'll look like a 50-50 split. The younger the people get the easier they're going to find it to book and get to appointments I imagine, so the daily vaccine numbers will be huge in a couple of months you'd expect.

We only really got into our stride from week starting 10th jan so second jabs will become significant from beginning of April.  I think we may get some moderna vaccine supplies in April which may help, we ideally need to be doing 1m a day, half being second doses.

It was a Thick of It reference, Jon. I thought the huge GIF of the exact scene I referred to within said episode would be ample evidence of that.

Certainly they will have to loosen the restrictions once the elderly and vulnerable have had their 2nd vaccine.

People won’t want to be subjected to more lockdowns otherwise they might think what was the point ?

I think we might go back to the tier systems whilst everyone else gets vaccinated and then work from

there on a long term plan .

This might make a difference regarding the second jabs, as we can concentrate everything that's open currently on second jabs, and then open up new centres for the younger, the more fit and more able, who can go in and out quickly whilst obviously only needing the one jab.

Not sure how close they are to releasing that vaccine though, but if it's around the end of March or start of April, we could probably vaccinate hundreds of thousands of fresh people every day with it.

Seems to be some serious confusion as to whether asthmatics will fall under priority group 6 or not right now.

We've been trying to look into it for my nephew, but the government advise and the JCI priority list on the website seems to conflict itself. Even the Asthma UK website doesn't know and says they've been contacting the government for urgent clarity.

I have just queried this with my gp and the reply I had was:

the definition used is "All individuals with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality, and unpaid carers" - we understand this to mean anyone who was eligible for a flu vaccination will be eligible for a Covid vaccination however we have not received any finer details than this at the moment - if you want to query further best you send us an email [email protected] or give us a call to discuss with a nurse - thank you :)

Just heard on the radio, the head of public health England has said measures need to be tougher this summer than last and that restrictions will still be in place next winter.
Am I missing something, but how can this be the case if most people have been vaccinated ?

Easy to say when they can work from home on full pay.

If people want to go abroad on holiday, they quarantine afterwards. But why shouldn't people be allowed to meet up in warm weather or go for days out at the coast?

Good luck with selling a lockdown vision when the sun is out.

Yup.  I reckon as soon as everyone has had the first jab social distancing etc is going to be thrown out the window. If the one jab does a good enough job to stop the majority having to go to hospital then  **** it....get the pubs open I've had enough now lol

I can only speak on a personal level but I'm noticing more and more people ready to just get back to some form of normality now, much different to 6 months ago when there were plenty more people happy to stay in lockdown, I think a few attitudes (if that's the right word?) are changing slowly.

As of 7th Feb there were 26,723 patients in hospital, compared to 18th Jan where the number was 39,925. Huge decline in less than 3 weeks.

This is down to 24,352 as of 10th Feb now. The 'peak' in the first lockdown had us at 21,687, so we're nearly back down to that level.

I think we're starting to see the vaccine have an effect on the numbers.

Selling the idea of it to a weary, fed-up public is no easy task. We were told that the vaccinations were the way out, that getting the most vulnerable protected was the priority which is why I think most people have understood and accepted the need for lockdown now. The figures suggest plenty have been responsible and the numbers are coming down- hopefully the ministers who love to blame the public will be out saying how well we're doing.

But in a couple of months when even more people are vaccinated (possibly half the country), you won't be able to sell an idea of lockdown. Not to go mad and open everything up recklessly but allowing more freedoms has to be key.

Crowds sledging on Cow Hill on Newcastle Town Moor

Police were left "outnumbered" and "hugely frustrated" when hundreds of people gathered to sledge in snow.

Large crowds congregated to frolic on Newcastle's Town Moor and Flatts Lane Country Park in Middlesbrough on Wednesday and Thursday.

These ‘models’ are about as good as my betting certs lol

We might well laugh, but just you wait until they make it onto the next set of slides at a Downing Street briefing.  No reason to think they won't be used to drive through their next idea going by past models they've used.

Interesting data has surfaced this week comparing the percentage of PCR tests in comparison to LF and how these have coincided with the drop in "cases".  I'd post it but no doubt someone on here will cast doubt on it.

I see an article today saying up to 40% of people treated in hospital for COVID in the first wave caught the damn thing whilst in Hospital. I know of two people personally who died with COVID after being in hospital treated for something else, so it doesn’t surprise me.

Nicely angled pic from the paparazzi there.
