All makes sense.

It’s good that in Korea people won’t even go in their garden if quarantined. I know someone who is ill with a cold and cough, they haven’t had a test and have gone to work as normal today. Livid.

Well, not everyone over here is singing from the same lyrics, but mostly enough has been done to maintain a semblance of normality (in terms of business, anyway) throughout all of this.

Yep, slightly concerning but he does caveat to saying this is why we need a strong vaccination programme to continue.

Or do what the Aussies did and just control the borders properly.

Wow, this is incredible. OxAZ vaccine prevents 100% of serious covid illness (and no blood clots).

Meanwhile due to the utter nonsense the European leaders have been spouting uptake of this medical marvel is waning, and no doubt lives will be lost as a result.  I hope their people hold them to account.

The Aussies whose imports are almost without exception containerised, whereas ours rely thousands of truck drivers British and European coming in and out every day?

I didn’t know he was? Is realistic then?

So we ARE at risk of a third wave?

Of course we are. We've only vaccinated 40% of our population and a lot of those will be the shutins anyways. Need to get the workers vaccinated and then we should be okay. :D

Yet our borders are still open for possible transmission of new variants, come June I can see a newly found Kazakhstan variant fvcking all our hope up.

Close the borders, stab us all with needles and let us bloody party in Skegness for our summer holidays.

I really don't see how we could have a '3rd wave' like we've had before, not with 27.6 million people vaccinated.

Wouldn't be the same as we've had before, but if we dropped all lockdown measure, masks and what not we are still not safe, not as bad =/= good. Herd immunity doesn't kick in til around the 70%~ of a population are inoculated mark.

Surely the this talked about third wave will be the acid test of the vaccines. No major problems from it with mass new deaths and hospitalisations then we are well on the home straight to seeing the end of this period in history.

There's no way masks and social distancing will be dropped in June, can't see it happening.

If he's talking about cases then fair enough, but by next week we'll have vaccinated the groups that account for 99% (I think that's the figure) of all deaths.

If there is a 3rd wave it will surely be a load of people testing positive but hardly anyone being ill or hospitalised

That is the theory. Of course, everyone will worry about variants being imported to the UK and that invalidating some/most/all of the vaccines.

However, classic Boris to change his tone every few days. The roadmap is very ambitious, why constantly over promise only to downplay it. The next phase or two in March/April seem realistic, but after that May seemed pretty ambitious and June quite frankly ridiculous. No way can all restrictions be removed, even if everything went perfect.

Social distancing has to be dropped.  Will there ever come a time when old people can go to a coffee morning?  Will there ever come a time when they can be in the same room with their family?  "Social distancing" doesn't just mean standing in the middle of the road as people go by.  It means social life.

I disagree.  If it all goes perfectly and the disease is no longer a significant threat, then why not release all precautions?  It would be like wearing tinfoil hats to protect from alien mind readers, or throwing salt out of train windows to keep ther elephants away.  There is no need to protect against a threat that doesn't exist.

Surely because a good deal of the at risk groups have been vaccinated, and the younger groups (i.e. the ones much less likely to develop symptoms, let alone require hospitalisation) are still likely to catch it but with very few problems. I would suspect if we had another wave the impact to the health system would be pretty minimal by this point - even if the numbers of positive cases looks bad on graphs

I agree mate, but I just can't see it happening in June, although I'd obviously (and regularly am on Foxestalk) love to be proved wrong.
