Undr the Cosh

Iain Hume on the Undr the Cosh podcast. Really interesting stories on his time at Leicester but a few things to explain the madness under the Mandaric era. Somethings (especially the bit on his contract) that as a club we cannot be proud of. However, it is one side to the story.

Mentions that leaving Leicester was one of the biggest mistakes of his career and never really wanted to go but it seems we forced his hand.

It also makes you think how far we have come under Khun Vichai and Top in terms of how the club is ran.

Yep, I skipped to the Leicester bits. Run it from about 35 minutes to 1 hour 15mins. Although, he does mention he will get to a story about Pearson later on but didn’t get that far.

Yeah 2 and a half hours of Iain Hume is stretching it a bit.

Wouldn't hurt them to split it into 2 podcasts if its that long.

Hume was one of my favourite players as a kid, loved how he just ran for it all and you could really see he gave a sh1t. Enjoyed listening to the interview, especially hearing details on the club and his time there. The behind the scenes stuff really is an eye opener of how we've come quite a way since then, our owners really did save us from a lot of crap.

But probably won't listen to that podcast again, the bloke sat next to Hume did not shut up, constantly trying to chime in and get a word in. For me if you've invited a guest on to hear their story, let them tell it.

I've listened to their pods with both Gerry Taggart and Matt Piper, so will give this a go when I get chance, especially as the player's stories really are good to hear when it's from your growing up era.

However I agree with the bib. They all come across as mouthy "lad type" bellends trying to target the BANTZ audience. Is quite a mood shift when you're so used to listening to decent, reasoned football podcasts

I remember watching a bit of Arsenal Fan TV when Gary Neville was on it after he slated the format. Cant recall if Robbie was there but it was mainly the Arsenal fans there who were ranting about how his comments made them feel for ages rather than having him answer/explain anything. He just sat there and had to listen to their shit opinions, was boring as a result and total waste of everyone's time.

The section between 45mins and 1hr 15 is about us and is a really interesting listen, do recommend to listen to it.

But I can't be doing with that bloke butting in trying to get a laugh or the final word.

Edit: I liken that bloke to the loud, mouthy guy down the pub who won't shut up and has to have his voice heard.

I used to like Hume when he was here. Always gave his all. Scored some really good goals for us. Surprisingly decent in the air too.

Went off him when he left. Not in a bitter way but I could never get my head around why he went to Barnsley. No disrespect but it's not a forward move (I know at the time we'd just been relegated but they mainly jump between tiers two and three).

Remember when he came back for Barnsley and everyone stood for him, including chanting his name, more than our players.

Big fan of Undr the cosh, enjoyed their chat with Jordan Stewart. If you're only interested in the bits relating to your club then I don't think a footie podcast is for you.

I don't think you've understood the criticism mate.

The content is fine and its a decent listen, I personally dislike how that particular presenter feels the need to butt in for a laugh or to get a word in when the guest is telling their story, so much of the flow of the podcast was stopped or affected by an unneeded comment which could've been clipped out.

Look at the Crouch podcast when they've had guests and the beautiful game pod (Which featured Rodgers and Simpson), both podcasts ask questions, let the guest tell their story and still have a decent laugh listening to it. Content wise, the podcast was great to hear a side of the story you wouldn't normally hear, delivery of it was what I disliked.

They split the Piper one into two bits. I’ll have a listen of this, liked Hume.

He goes over that tbf and as good as says it was a downwards step if anything. Sounds as if we tried to shaft him a bit.

Was actually interesting even after the stuff about us. Sounds as though we shafted him, I know we are always supposed to read the small print when signing stuff but how underhand were we? The story about Graham Westley telling his players at Preston that his kids don’t call him dad , they call him medal winner! (He’s won the conference with Stevenage!) And this was before his first game in charge. No wonder he was sacked after a few months.

Also it really is a minor miracle we didn't sink even lower with Mandaric in charge. What a twat, thank Christ for Nige.

Might of not had tge best owners in the world if it wasnt for him

Yeah I will listen tbf.

I only watched the League One season review other day and Nige opens with "there were some players that didn't want to be here when I joined" (or something along those lines) so I've always wondered who he meant.

And yes. We wouldn't be in this position now if it wasn't for Nige. Turned the club around, on and off the field, but thank God we got out of League One at the first attempt (well, battered it really) and that should never be overlooked.

Look at the state of his head though from that injury. Jeez.

Also his accent I'm hearing more Scouse than Canadian lol

Fun player, had that bit of feistiness but never went over the top. He was particularly fun to watch for a little bit around the time when we had Rob Kelly in charge, we switched to playing fast through balls through the opposition defence with a young Fryatt and Hume running onto it - shame was we were complete turd just about everywhere on the pitch apart from one right back, a centreback(if fit) and the strikers. Also used to be funny with Hume too, any photo you'd see of him whilst playing he'd have his tongue out.

Didn't think the podcast was too bad, could've been done better and they really struggled to transition between subjects at times, Humey repeating the same sentence in a different order for five minutes without it going anywhere happened multiple times and the extra Norvun sounding host would even bring it straight back into the previous dead end after they'd seemingly left it.

Shame how it ended for him here but we were on the rocks and had more important issues, he had a chance in the Championship straight after and if what happened didn't, who knows? Another 'bigger' team than Barnsley might've picked him up.

Horrible to hear about how the Ref, The Football League and The FA dealt with the fractured skull incident, he was let down on multiple fronts so it's fair if he still harbours hurt feelings but hope it somehow gets resolved for him personally.

Could hear quite a bit of Scottish accent too. Think he spent his early years there.

I think that’s less his evaluation of them as good potential owners and more they paid him a wedge. Pretty sure he would’ve sold us to Al-Qaeda if they turned up with a hefty enough bag of cash.

I used to be in the ‘Mandaric steadied the ship for the Thais’ camp but I was a lad when he took over, and the more I look over it with a bit more context we never should have even been relegated to League One, we were mediocre before he took over but never relegation worthy.

And yeah we never would have won the Premier League without being relegated to League One and Pearson wouldn’t have took over etc. etc. but realistically it was Pearson working miracles as per. I don’t think a shite owner who got us relegated should he accredited for the butterfly effect.

The fact the new owners (as they were then) went back to Pearson after flirting with the big names and glamour shows how vital he was.

Pearson kept Mandaric quiet for two years by being effective on the pitch, Mandaric was in the press all hours the 18 months before because his managers were crap, their signings ineffective and the club a complete mess. Fans, amazingly, are much more content when results are good and business carrying on as normal.
