2020/21 Under 23's, U19's, Development ... thread

Starting to be way more competitive which is good, Kian Pennant seems to be the bright spark of a fairly rough season so far, at 16 it will be good to see him tested at a higher level next year possibly. Still think his brother should be starting for the U23's, he was the best player in the U18's last season and him and Fitzhugh shouldn't still be playing back in the 18's really.

The Tavares situation is so worrying. We can’t keep spending years developing players and not have suitable contracts in place. What a waste of our time and resources.

It’s a matter of time until we lose a player of Barnes quality for nothing.

Dewsbury-hall was coming towards an end and josh knight doesn’t have a deal yet. It’s becoming an issue.

come to Leicester train in a state of the art facility then chuff off for a nice sign on bonus. Perhaps it’s normal, but it seems the more it happens the more our crop become aware of the ability to do it.

It also doesn’t seem to work in our favour. We pick up the odd club rejects, but nobody that a bigger club had always wanted to keep.

I personally think he is gone in January or at least agrees to a deal with another club in January, the fact he isn't even getting a sniff of u23 football shows something isn't right

My only glimmer of hope is he's injured. Bizarre for him to have 2 great games for the U23's and then be named in the EL list only to then vanish from all levels in the last 3-4 weeks.

New training ground to help produce £30m players as Leicester City step into rivals' territory
Leicester City's new headquarters in the north of the county will not only help them attract players from overseas, but also widen the pool of prodigious youngsters they could bring in

Leicester City’s new training ground may help them attract the best talents from around the world, but developing their own £30million star will always be the first aim of the club.

City are currently enjoying one of the most successful periods in the academy’s history, with three homegrown players – Leicester and Leicestershire-born Harvey Barnes, Hamza Choudhury, and Luke Thomas – in the first-team squad, and with another club-developed star in Ben Chilwell sold for £50m in the summer.

The location of the new headquarters at Seagrave in the north of the county should help City widen the pool of prodigious youngsters they can bring in, and on patches where Nottingham Forest and Derby County used to be seen as more attractive clubs. It is understood Forest are concerned they may lose out on young players to City.

And the quality of the facilities should help City become even more proficient in producing top-level players, and it’s something manager Brendan Rodgers is greatly looking forward to.

“As a developer and spending my life in youth coaching, (bringing players through the academy) will always be the first look,” said Rodgers. “Hence these young players have had their opportunities, like Luke Thomas, while there has been more game-time for Hamza and Harvey.

“The first look always has to be within, because you might have a £20m or £30m player in your academy. Rather than going out and spending it on someone else, you might have them right there.

Leicester can be competitive without financial resources - Rodgers

“There’s huge investments now in youth development. We’ll go to a facility now where the programme can be put in place for the benefit of the kids that gives the maximum possibility to perform.

“You always have to be wary because you can have the best facility in the world, but it’s what goes on inside that’s most important. For our young players, they’ve got a great facility and it’s important that we can continue to grow them and continue to get players into the first team.”

But it’s not just about catering to the kids – it’s their parents too.

And City have built a pavilion to make them feel more comfortable as they try to help their child fulfil their dream, while there is also a viewing area in the indoor training centre.

“The pitches for academy, young players will never play on better surfaces,” added Rodgers.

“There’s a great area for parents of young players. Now the demands on parents of young players is greater than it has ever been. They have to be there for so many hours and so many days of the week, so there is an opportunity for them to relax and enjoy the experience.”

Does anyone actually know what happened to Sidnei Tavares?!

I've heard Beaglehole has him locked in his basement until he agrees to stop passing along the floor and wanting silly things like regular football in the U23s

Being monitored by Marseille im told.

Fin, whats the crack? Your knowledge of the academy is better than most, the handling of him seems bizarre. Rodgers raves about him in the summer, and yet he still only got the odd U23 appearance. Then had 2 blinders for them and was named in the EL squad list and then has disappeared since. Injured?

He would only sign a contract if he got a championship loan or higher or was promised first team games for us.

He's after first team football but nobody jumped in to take a chance on a loan for him in the summer .

His demands to be included in first team training did not go down too well so now there's a stand off with him and the club.

Unless we give in and give him an opportunity I can see nothing else but him going abroad.

His fitness must be lacking because of so little game time but not heard he has an injury as such.

Hes a real talent and I hope a solution can be found but I fear he's going to be one we regret losing down the line.

He can go abroad .............. to OHL  .........

Ben Nelson aged 16, training a lot with the first team is very positive news. Been playing a lot for the U23's this season and has got to be the first player in years at that age to be doing so, we are notoriously slow to progress players in to the U23's. Could well see him involved in the next 18 months.
