Transfer funds and KP

Recommended Posts

From the BBC: 'Gatwick airport says passenger numbers fell by 14.7 million, or two-thirds, in the first half of the year as air travel collapsed amid the pandemic'
Presumably a similar situation is happening at Thai airports and the reduction in the number of passengers must have serious implications for the King Power business.

Will this have an effect on our transfer budget ?

We may have money from the sale of Maguire and Chilwell but could some of that money go to shore up the KP business ?

Does LCFC owe money to KP, and if so could KP ask for repayment ?

Chilwell money and Maguire money!...£130m+

That would be nothing compared to what KP is losing.

I would question why KP would claim debts against Leicester when their owners run the club? Would make no sense whatsoever.

KP don't pump pump money into the clubs transfer budget. We are self sufficient so the money we generate we spent on the club. I imagine that is why loans were taken out to cover the training ground so the club didn't spent so many millions in one go.

50%+ of KP Duty revenues are derived from Chinese Customers and they 'ain't travelling at the moment.  Add in the fact that a high percentage of their balance customers are also not travelling, this can only mean KP Tourism revenue must be be taking a massive hit.  As for who owes who what, no idea.   Common sense tells me they are kept as separate business entities.

I would imagine Thailand & Asian airports are a lot worse than ours.

As others have pointed out, the financial accounts of the last few years constantly talk about LCFC being self-sufficient and moving away from a reliance on KPI as they were early doors in the Championship.

The shirt sponsorship as many will know is reportedly worth very little (£4m/season) but the deal with the Tourism Authority of Thailand may have helped both City and KPI in this regard both financially and in reputation terms. I don't believe the stadium sponsorship is that significant either.

It was mooted pre-COVID that it was likely that KPI would move away from their mass sponsorship of the club and look for more valuable deals, we've seen that with Parimatch now sponsoring the club's training gear.

We've got a £91m loan for the training ground but it is to be repaid in the next six years.

The club's not short of money, and neither are KPI.

Money is no object, apparently. Haven't you heard? We're about to sign Luis Suarez on £300k+ p/w.

More seriously, the Club just took out another loan from Australian "Vampire Bank" Macquarie. Assume this is to make up the entire Chilwell transfer fee as it's likely going to be paid in installments which will then be paid back to Macquarie in the same installments (+6-odd % interest)

This seems to indicate the club is not exactly flush with cash and required the full amount from the Chilwell deal in order to fund transfers into the club this summer.

Seen this repeatedly coming up - King Power appear to put next to no direct funds in the club. It self-funds itself with player departures and TV deal which is then used as collateral for a cash loan to an Australian bank.

That's not unusual as no football club has cash reserves. They are simply getting the money now rather than in instalments.

Back in the Championship days, those loan deals were executed with KP giving LCFC money. They did it interest free. For example, Man U do that now but at a debt to the Glazers.

Worth remembering that king power has a pretty diverse set of investments. They don’t just do duty free.

And this.

You are naive to think King Power's fortune is wrapped up in solely duty free. They are likely to have fingers in things such as pension funds, property funds etc

Correct, but could they be taking funds out?

They could yeah. But they could be just not wanting to waste money on players and panic buy I guess... We have got transfer wrong in the past (like a lot of other clubs) and maybe they don't want to waste money why funds are tight world wide.
