That’s not what I mean though. The last two years have been so miserable, I’ve forgotten what it’s like to enjoy a game

Yeah sorry I wasn't really replying faithfully to the point you made.

Paintballing for the first time this weekend at 37, not sure how I’ve avoided it.

Any good?

I love it but I'm pretty immature and enjoy shooting stuff, especially my friends.

Have you bought anything at previous games that didn’t get charged? One of my friends had a charge come through 3 weeks later after he’d bought something in the concourse.

Very much doubt it. Not bought anything from the club shop for well over 12 months and whilst we do occasionally get things in the concourse the wife checks the bank accounts at least daily and she would have noticed if anything was outstanding.

Is anyone else constantly checking the General News thread every few minutes in case they miss something before it's deleted?

This is a great interview - and it doesn't make for comfortable listening either.

I’ve always read/listened to Yanis as he’s a dying breed of intellectual politician who’s actually had a career that wasn’t exploitative in nature and relied on enlightenment and development of others. The ignorance of a majority of this generation’s politicians and their cabal is the antithesis of this shown by wearing their ignorance and lack of education as a badge of honour offset by income or power they hold.

I’m glad he was able to articulate clearly the lasting damage the banking sector did to the world but it’s depressing that this is forgotten or ignored in order to deliberately scapegoat people for political convenience. 2008 really was the death of capitalism as we know it and the beginning of the hideous progression towards libertarianism.

That said he still does bear the habits of my main frustration with the left in politics in that I remain sceptical that they can provide the solution to the problem we face now. He says himself that wealth and income taxes are ineffective when you consider the vast amount of capital stored in housing. He says a reduction in prices is the only solution which I semi agree with. My reticence with this is that this can only be achieved by hamstringing the younger generation. Outside the obvious of build my property to reduce demand ( side stepping the issue of population increase) you’d need to restrict lending conditions making it easier for the wealthy to flourish. The solution to this is long and difficult but my gripe is he stops short of saying how they’d achieve this. It’s also my main gripe with this podcast as it always seems to me they identify issues but never go into solutions for fear of being labelled populists.

I was very interested in his views on the future of the EU as they did align closely to my own. As a remainer, I’ve found myself becoming more sceptical of the long term success of the bloc meaning I’ve got my own doubts in future alignment purely by fear of the consequence of what I fear is an inevitable collapse.

I agree with a lot of this - and that's what made it such an uncomfortable listen. Much as I am of the left, I'm not a reactionary leftist, nor an extremist. Sadly, there are those that might one day seek to punish those of us that disagree even mildly - there is plenty of evidence of this happening in many spheres already.

I also came away with a “ We’re all f**ked” as I can’t put my finger on it, but I’m sceptical Farage and Harborne are our knights on shining armour.

slight understatement there.

Does it feel as though the younger generation aren't as glory obsessed when choosing football clubs to support compared to before? I think following local and even non-league teams is quite fashionable now.

Since when did bulky waste collection from the council cost £40 for a small 2 seater sofa? No wonder people fly tip. I'll just buy the power tools for the same price to break it down and have the tools at the end of it.

I’m really surprised this Luke Littler/Mo Farrah debate is actually a debate.

I’m hardly Phil Taylor myself but checking out a 501 at darts is not a difficult task

Mo will run a marathon in 2 hours ish

Littler won’t be sub 4 hours

That gives Mo around 120 mins, minimum, to get through 26 501’s.

Easy

Yeah, when it's broken down like that the result is obvious.

On a similar topic, what do people reckon is the hardest single solo sporting achievement in terms of skill? Nine dart finish? 147 break? Hole in one? Something different?

Funny you say this, as this came next in conversation yesterday after talking about my topic

I was told Paddy Power put it to the test? But can’t find too much about it after a very quick search

147 is by far and away the hardest to achieve. It’s probably 99.9% skill.

A 9 darter would be next I’d say- Probably in the high 90% skill

A HIO has a huge element of luck to it- wind, bounce etc

I would say the 147 as well, but then there might be others in other sports that haven't been thought of besides those three?

(NB. I mentioned skill explicitly because if we're talking athletic sporting ability, it must be the Ironman Triathlon.)

Those are the main 3 always mooted in this question though aren’t they. I’ve sometimes seen the max score in ten pin bowling being thrown in as a fourth option

147 without a doubt.

You 'could' fluke a 9 dart or a hole in one, but to complete a 147 takes unbelievable skill. You have to be in absolute control of what you're doing for such a long time.

A 300 bowling game doesn't seem to come up often (a cursory look reveals) and it relies on 12 perfect "shots", as darts relies on 9 and snooker requires 36. Obviously the relative "difficulty" of each shot is different, but when you look at it that way the 147 does look to be by far the most difficult to accomplish in terms of maintaining focus for the required number of shots to do it.

On topic, a man who made that hardest of challenges look like Louvre-worthy art:

do youth/academy players still have to clean first team players boots?

dont most players have brand new boots for every game anyway?

maybe they only clean managers/coaches boots or first teamers training boots?
