If that's meant to be obvious the designer needs sacking lol

I think it's supposed to be subliminal.

I camped out the last couple of nights, and as I sat by my fire with a fat one on my lip, a few things crossed my mind:

Birds. I've been wild camping since I was a kid growing up in the Sixties, and back then the dawn chorus was a glorious vocal event with tens or even scores of species in full throng, especially in woodland; that morning there had been three - comprising of a handful of pigeons, a murder of crows and a lonely blackbird. To put it in football terms, it's like comparing the atmosphere between Seville at home and Carlyle away on a cold Wednesday; you had the pigeons giving the same monotonous chant, "coo-coo, coo-coo, Lest-uh, Lest-uh...", the crows drunkenly stumbling about quarreling and fighting among themselves, and the game blackbird valiantly trying to start a chant but then tailing off into embarrassed silence as he realises no one is joining in. And the scary thing is that the 'crowds' aren't coming back. This has happened in my short lifetime.

Bugs. Again, when I was a kid, if we drove a car any significant distance in summer the windscreen would be literally covered in dead insects of varying sorts; the last few times I've driven far there have been none. Zero. This is really scary. I'm beginning to think that either they have evolved sufficient intelligence to avoid cars, or that Eco-collapse is a more imminent and a more dangerous threat than even global warming (though the two are inextricably linked, of course).

Marks and Spencers. They really are behind the times, aren't they? "Ooooh, not just blueberry pie, but Marks and Spencers sumptious fresh blueberry pie with a dollop of Cornish cream...". Not much fvcking good if you're not on Just Eat, is it? Not that Just Eat are in any way cooperative: why isn't, 'the bridge over the canal somewhere near Foxton' considered a real address? The annoying thing is that the technolology is already there to make it simple. Order by app, delivered by drone. Job done. And I'd never have to sit and pretend that a muesli bar constiitutes legitimate munchy food ever again.

I refuse to dignify the xmas thread by adding even a disdainful comment to it.  Shame on everyone involved.

Pretty sure this is more about that age old "Llama Vs Reindeer" jealousy than anything else.

There are no carols about Llama's are there :P

I hope every single car sat in that traffic sat there revving their engines as much as possible

I feel like this is what he was going for but he ended up like the kid from the Inbetweeners auditioning for a Beach Boys tribute act.

My mum has this saying right, and it’s when she sees people on TV, usually minor celebs that just seem to pop up on everything - “oh they’d be in if they fell in!”.

Does anybody else say this/have you heard it before? What does it even mean?!

My mother used to say that too. I'm not 100%sure what it meant either.

they target the working class instead of those who are truly in charge and doing things wrongly. not real activism imo. and im not just talking about the gov, rather big corporations. and the names of those whom we do not know about it.

Never heard it before, but does it mean they're "in" with the right people?

They keep getting roles/work because of who they know or because their face fits, not due to any personal merit?

As for "fell in", maybe the idea is that they'd get a role for these reasons even if they just fell in through the door or fell into a pond or something? :dunno:

I’ve no idea. It’s bizarre and always makes me laugh. The reason it made me think about it was because I was watching Celebrity Master chef and Joe Swash was on it, and I ended up saying it and my girlfriend was like what have you just said - i was just like I’ve got no idea what it means but I think it means this? I’ve asked my mum about it before and even she can’t explain it really.

On the subject of odd sayings, one that my Grandma often came out with when I was a kid: "Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!"

She'd say that to express astonishment at something she was told. I found it hilarious, particularly as she was quite a melodramatic character, so made melodramatic hand and face gestures to accompany the saying.

Also, the news itself was never particularly dramatic. One I remember was her mate up the road waving and shouting "Hallooo!" at a bus, in a way Grandma deemed socially demeaning.

She had some inherited social aspirations, I think, as her mother had been quite middle-class and her father had come into some money, but had then spent it on whiskey so the family had dropped down the social league table.

Just after WW1, as a young woman Grandma had a clerical job at Boot's. One day the manager asked her to make a cup of tea for a visitor, but she walked out of her job in a huff, saying she "hadn't been brought up to make people cups of tea!"
