When Rogers first joined us, he wore 5 til the end of the season then swapped to 15 at the start of the next (although I can't remember, for the life of me, who wore it for the following season...! 😅)

I agree. Takes the pressure off a bit. 

 

Weird how a number at a particular club comes with the pressure of previous players. I know 7 at Liverpool and Manchester United have been assigned to great players but 9 at Newcastle stands out, maybe because the media hype it up a bit because of Shearer (and I'm guessing Milburn had it too).

Ah yeah you're probably right. So he swapped and had 15 starting from 02/03. I don't know if we had a 5 in 02/03, can't remember off the top of my head. Our main CB partnership then was still Elliott/Taggart and Heath was coming through (Heath had 25 I think).

We should adopt the approach they have in the NFL an retire the following numbers, so that they never appear again in recognition of the legends that wore them:

 

9 - Vardy

14 - Kante

26 - Mahrez

Not a fan of retiring numbers. Eventually you'll reach a point where there are no numbers left. Unless you start allowing 3 digit numbers, which seems a bit ridiculous.

Toss-up between 5 and 9. Still give it 5 for Walshie and Wes, but I would gladly have had Steve Howard's babies during League One and the Kermit season so, between him and Vards, 9 runs it very close.
