Young goalkeeper Daniel Iversen has signed a loan deal with Preston North End until the end of the 2020/21 campaign, subject to Football League clearance.

- Danish goalkeeper Daniel Iversen moves to Preston on loan
- He spent the first half of the 2020/21 season in Belgium with OH Leuven
- The promising shot stopper signed a new deal with the Foxes to 2025 last year

The 23-year-old Dane joined OH Leuven on loan in August 2020 and made five appearances in Belgium’s top-flight before returning to the Foxes ahead of a move to Deepdale.

He played 38 times for Rotherham United in all competitions in 2019/20, keeping 10 clean sheets in Sky Bet League 1 as he helped the Millers to promotion to the second tier.

Internationally, he has represented Denmark from Under-16s to Under-21s level, and received his first call-up to the senior squad in 2019.

Alex Neil’s Preston side are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Wycombe Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup.

Thought they were signing Jakupovic?

Have they both gone? lol

Rudd is injured so maybe that's why, they just needed two more goalkeepers..?

Good move though and to a club who should be nearer the top end of the league.

It's hard to keep up!

I'm assuming journo heard Preston were signing a Leicester keeper and assumed it was Jakupovic and that's how the story started.

Good move for him, guaranteed Championship football with Rudd's injury and under a decent manager in McNeil. The move to Championship football is one I think most expected in the summer after his form with Rotherham, so good he's now got that opportunity. Excited to see how he progresses.

The right move but a shame this wasn't done in the Summer, half a season wasted.

...no way to foresee the events which unfolded at OHL!!!

He was in the number one jersey until his injury, Romo's performances has confined him to the bench. He needs the minutes and the only way to give him that was to bring him back and arrange another loan.

Championship is a better standard though which is probably the point.

With Rudd injured hopefully Iversen can become number one at Preston. He got good reviews at Rotherham.

Is the Championship a better standard than the Belgian top flight?

Are Norwich a better team than Brugge? Are Brentford better than Anderlect?
I don’t think it is a better standard at all.

I don't know, because aside from the teams that get into Europe I don't watch Belgian sides, but I'd imagine overall the Championship is a tougher league to play in.

A useful question in discussing our loan strategy -- so I checked the fivethirtyeight rankings.

The Belgian First has a handful of powers at (and Brugge arguably above) Championship level, then a sharp drop-off to OHL at #330 in the world.  (Already “best of the rest” … KP should patent the idea)

But there are fewer weak sides in the Champ, where nearly all of the clubs are ranked in the top 250.  It’s a stronger, more consistent league overall.

This obviously is not the last word on the subject, but a pretty reasonable take IMO.  I wonder if our Belgian posters would agree?

If Iversen comes through after this loan move and is our 2nd choice goalie, will that make the £12.5m purchase of Danny Ward one of the worst bits of business we've ever done domestically?

Depends how you look at it. When they were buying Ward if they were told "worst case scenario - he might not play at all as you're going to have your current keeper as the future club captain who rarely gets injured and is immense"

they'd probably have settled for that...

Exactly this for me, when we brought him in we had no clue if Kasper would stay fit or pick up a huge injury. I'd rather not be in a place where we're stuck with Ben Hamer or Mark Schwarzer in goal
