Cheers. I meant more from an advertising perspective, as in I’m surprised all PL teams can’t get custom kits seeing as it’s such a high profile league.  I used to work in manufacturing and can’t see it being too expensive for them to throw a designer at it for a few weeks and churn out a single production run.  It’s not like they’re tooling up for it or anything (I don’t think, don’t know how kits are made).

I suspect it may be more of an exclusivity issue, to tempt the big boys with.

True. But again I suppose they’re all a vehicle to make money aren’t they. The manufacturers still want people to go out and buy them I suppose, that’s the end game of producing the replica kits - I guess the big boys like Nike and Adidas are so recognisable they don’t really need to do much more than stick 3 stripes on it or put a tick on it to make it identifiable as that brand.

Well that is their brand lol same as Nike will have their swoosh and a couple of templates with some bespoke features, Hummel will have their arrows, Kappa with their logo everywhere and tighter than swimsuits, Umbro with the diamond, etc

What I’m saying is to me, there’s a difference between having a logo on the kit, and the kit itself being a logo. What if every single Nike kit ever made past, present and future - including bespoke designs for clubs like Man City - had a big swoosh running down both shoulders and the sides of the shorts? That would be the direct comparison.

I’m an adidas guy myself literally half my wardrobe is adidas stuff with a few puma exceptions. Only my Nike England kits stand out like a sore thumb (need to return to umbro) imo. I’d like the current kits and if they could better than that’s a bonus!

What happened to long-sleeved shirts?

We used to have them (before Adidas) - the black and red kits were the last as far as I remember. They used to sell out very quickly but never re-stocked, despite assurances they would be.

Page 3 of this thread now and nobody has mentioned wanting to have a Nike kit...

Dunno, ethics and stock kit choices aside, I do think a Nike kit would be great.

I really like the Brighton home kit this year... if it was a slightly darker blue, you've got the pinstripes (nod to the '84 kit), the white shorts, and a flash of yellow but without it taking over, so it feels more of a Leicester kit than our current adidas one.

But the problem with all the kit makers is making kits that differentiate themselves. Everyone is yearning for a nice, sleek, simple kit, but once you do that, its difficult to follow it up...

Our first Adidas kit was a relatively simple home hit with the 3 white stripes down the sleeves. Didn't need much more than that. 2nd year, relatively simple kit but with gold. This year, a relatively simple kit, but WTF is going on with the stripes on the sleeves? Completely unnecessary and throws the balance off the shirt.

And looking at Nike, last year's Spurs shirt (don't ask, but my daughter has one) was a really nice shirt: white, with dark blue V-neck and trim. This years, they have all sorts of noise going on and zig-zags down the side: its hideous. Even my daughter, with such poor taste in football teams had no interest in one.

So give me Nike for 1 beautiful simple blue kit with a tick, a white v-neck and white trim, then give me Hummel for a year with the Chevrons down the side, then see what Under Armour can do, then maybe back to Adidas... (and if this means that it makes sense to go back to changing home shirts every 2 years rather than every year, then that might not be a bad thing!)

Pretty much all the adidas/nike kits come in short sleeves only, even the "big 6" from what I've seen. A shame, as I was after a long sleeve. As most the players wear baselayers, I'm guessing that's removed the need to make them.

I feel like a lot of clubs and manufacturers have phased them out, but I wonder if they may be making a comeback.

adidas had official long sleeve Man Utd kits in stock earlier this year: https://www.adidas.com/us/manchester-united-20-21-home-jersey/FM4290.html

Some MLS teams are getting long sleeve shirts this season: https://www.footyheadlines.com/2021/03/adidas-mls-sell-long-sleeve-kits-for.html?m=1

We’d probably have to be bumped up to B-level with adidas to have any chance at getting long sleeve shirts in our club store.

They choose to wear long sleeved base layers, though, not short-sleeved.  I wonder how many players would choose to wear a long sleeved shirt, given the choice. Quite a few I would think. Also, from an aesthetic point of view, it looks rubbish :).  Imagine George Best in a short sleeved shirt. It wouldn’t work. But then I’m probably just showing my age there.  I often think I’m on my own obsessing about long sleeves, but as I say, they used to sell out very quickly, so maybe not. Strangely, goalkeeper shirts come in long sleeves. It could be argued keepers need more protection, but they could also wear a long-sleeved base layer.  Perhaps it’s simply cost-cutting - more material needed. Hmmm.  Bring the long-sleeved shirt back now.  It’s stressing me out no end :D

New Balance would be perfect. Only team in the league to have NB and would have our own template with a crazy away kit! We’re never going to get upgraded to this Adidas B either.

Not to me really. Adidas will have to spend considerably more time and effort (£££) to produce the bespoke stuff. They need to be able to guarantee returns on that investment from a shirt sales point of view. The only people (really, in the grand scheme of things) buying Leicester shirts are Leicester fans, of which, world wide, there aren’t that many compared to the likes of Arsenal, Man United, Real Madrid etc. If they started selling Leicester shirts in New York for example you’d get a large group of people who 1. Wouldn’t have a clue what it was and 2. Would know who it was but still wouldn’t buy it because they’d probably buy the Real or Man U shirt because they’re huge global brands. They know they can spend more money on producing those kits because it’s almost guaranteed that people will buy them all over the world.

If, however, we continue on our upwards trajectory that will start to change (already has I think we’ve already moved up the pecking order with Adidas for next season). The more exposure we get in Europe (and therefore worldwide) the bigger our case becomes.

I think we get caught up in the emotion of (not you specifically, just generalising) our club and think we’re often bigger than we actually are. The reason we don’t get a bespoke kit from Adidas isn’t because they aren’t bothered about us it’s just strictly business I imagine.

You’ve made a really good point, the bespoke Adidas kits aren’t even that different from the templates anyway really this year. Huge brand but they make very bland football kits these days.

There's a decent-sized market of folks who will buy shirts if they like the shirt, especially in the States. I think we'd be surprised by how many people would buy a Leicester shirt if the club and the manufacturer made a good effort on the shirt and the marketing campaign around it. We've been missing out on this opportunity.
