I could see a thread for this.

Our so called golden generation of English youngsters lost again.

1-0 against Switzerland.

Spain & Germany picking up good wins on Wednesday.

The big shock was France losing to Denmark yesterday 1-0.

England next play on Sunday against Portugal.

Ady Boothroyd's excuse

The players have had too much game time with their clubs

WTF!!!!

I was surprised we lost in all honesty. We have a terrible record recently and I expect us to go out fairly early.

The France result was a surprising one, considering the talent they have within that squad.

.....and if they hadn't been getting those games it would have been not enough game time!

Just won 3 out of 18 games in this competition sums it all up !

Boothroyd did well for a while playing a certain way (think you still beat us twice) having Ashley Young in the side and King up front in form.

But it did go off the rails a lot and he hadn’t got a great record since.

Probably has to set up as the main team do and maybe isn’t sure how to do that.

We seemed to pass it around a lot without much of a threat.

Boothroyd still being in a job tells me the FA are still as clueless as ever.

Still living off that Watford season in 2006 (although it could be argued he's achieved more in club management than the current England manager, remarkably). He was known as Aidy Hoofroyd for a reason and he isn't going to change now.

Steve Cooper seemed to do very well in that set-up and has proved to be pretty good at Swansea. If you put someone like Graham Potter in there with his style I think the players would flourish. Boothroyd will never get the best out of a talented group.

TBH I'd rather try to be forward thinking  and get  a few efforts on goal than tippy tap passing going nowhere which seems to be what the current plan is.

If we have good attacking players with pace and a bit of skill let them use it rather than look to just keep the ball for the sake of it allowing other teams to sit back and defend.

3 red cards in the final minutes of the Spain / Italy game. That was the only highlight, as the game finished 0-0.

Losing again.

Think Boothroyd might be getting a P45 for Easter.

We’ve been saying that for 3 years....

Honestly this is like watching any England team at any major tournament. Great looking squad on paper, bit of hype/expectation then getting fairly comfortably turned over by any team that has a half-decent game plan. Terrible yet again, very disappointing but not surprising. Look completely clueless

1 shot on target in 2 games...

Players playing out of position. Players who can play in those positions left on the bench.

the bloke is an utter joke who has been ruining our best generation for 4 of his 5 years in charge.

And no one knows why... his best mate Dan Ashworth left years ago...

Southgate might be shite but he's Rinus Michels compared to Aidy Boothroyd. It's actually a total joke that he's been in charge as long as he has. Clueless

When was the last time we had a genuinely class manager, at any level? I've been watching England for over 25 years and I look at the managers we've had and think no wonder we rarely get past the last 16/QFs.

Capello.

Boothroyd could go successive tournaments without winning a match. Absolute shambles.

He was on the way down and was absolutely miserable for us but Capello was appointed fresh off the back of a Spanish title and had a considerable haul behind him before that.

Steve Cooper looks a bright young manager - the FA definitely got it right there and it's exactly the sort of appointment we need to be making across all age groups. Perversely, you want the interest in them from clubs because they're having a positive impact with England. Who's coming in for Boothroyd here? Absolute shower of shite.

Doesn't help that the senior side is rubbish and players are fast tracked. What's the point in Bellingham making up the numbers in the seniors. Boothroyd is a shit manager but a lot of the under 21 players are massively overrated.

Yeah Capello was the one I thought of, Sven as well, but at the time he needed to spend money to win things if I remember his Italian league titles correctly.

Would love for us to have Klopp one day, think he's destined for the Germany national team though.

Bar Alex Ferguson, I don’t think England could have got more successful club managers than Capello and Sven, the problem is International football is different to the day-to-day managing of clubs.

It seems like Capello failed because the players hated playing for him as he was a disciplinarian who bored the heck out of the players while they were stuck with him at tournaments.

I think that’s why the FA have gone down the Southgate route and the kind of glorified cheerleader schtick does go a fair way as you saw at the last World Cup. The problem is when you come up against sides that are as good as you and that’s when you rely on the tactical guys to give you the edge. That’s where Southgate has failed so far.

Also, shuddering at the memory brought on by this post, that we basically brought Peter Taylor in on the back of the work he’d done with England U21s.

I don't see it changing either as the job just simply hasn't got the pull a lot of people think it has.

Boothroyd being in charge is just a complete joke though. How he survived that 2019 Euros I've no idea and didn't we recently draw 3-3 to Andorra U21? Andorra U21!!!!! An average manager could beat Andorra's first team with our kids and we ship 3 to them. That's before we even mention the latest production from the conveyor belt of toss served up.

There just has to be better than Boothroyd.

The U21s have been failed by Pearce, Southgate and Boothroyd for years.

It's so so poor. There has to be some progressive coaches around, rather than these clowns.

As Dan said, it's not like we were all guns blazing in the qualifiers either. Drawing with Andorra at this age group is quite unbelievable.
