I thought about addding this piece of news to the PL thread, but I think it warrants its own thread for discussion and speculation.

Henry and Shearer the first inductees.

who else do you think should have gone in first?

Cantona?
Bergkamp?
Terry?
Gerrard?

many others

They're probably the two best goal scorers in PL history, so the right decision to induct first.

Cantona and Bergkamp should probably be in the discussion. Cantona is iconic, was transformative for Manchester Reds but played less than 200 PL games. Bergkamp played in the same side as Henry - they weren't going to put in two Gooners.

Midfielders next as to not focus on forwards. Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard. Giggs would probably have been considered if he wasn't such a dickhead.

Big mistake letting fans vote and making it partisan.

Yes they'll be able to rename it the Super6+ Hall of Infamy. :P

With Shearer kick a player in the head and with Cantona kick a fan added later :D

Giggs in terms of what he has achieved on the football pitch should be one of the first names on the list, because of off field antics will never get near it.

Cantona, Bergkamp, both great shouts. Roy Keane, Les Ferdinand and David Silva won’t be far behind.

Aguero will be the first of the players currently playing.

Public vote will rule out players like Gareth Barry, Gary Speed and Emile Heskey.

Not saw anyone mention Teddy Sheringham. Surely has to be in the convo.

That’s cos he’s not worthy of being in the convo

Cantona would be the next shout for me. Unreal signing, which changed everything for United looking back, and an icon. He was the first player I remember really loving as I was getting into football.

What was wrong with the English Football Hall of Fame?

Did we really need this?

You shouldn’t need it!  But I’ll tell you why you do.

I followed your link and, out of nearly 150 male inductees (players and managers), counted a dozen from nations outside the UK.  Only seven outside the UK and Ireland.

That accurately reflects the long history of the English game.  But it doesn’t reflect most living fans’ experience, and certainly not the diversity of talent that makes the top English division the global league of choice.

As part of your national football museum, the English Football HoF has apparently decided to stick to an insular mission.  But it’s left a massive gap and the PL marketing suits will drive their truck right through it.  People will be drawn by the players they’ve watched and the memories they want to relive.  Not enough of those players are getting in.

The thing is, it should represent the long history of the game. It should represent the greatest Footballers to ever play the game.
I love looking at something like this, and reading about achievements of older players.

All of the players who get into the PL hall of fame are already in the English Football Hall of Fame.

Shearer was inducted in 2004 and Henry in 2008.

How many of the nominees are not already in the English Football Hall of Fame?

How many players like Ryan Giggs won’t get into the PL hall of fame because the marketing team won’t like it?

This will not be a hall of game based on football ability, it will be purely based on marketing, big name players who played for big name clubs, who won’t cause any controversy.

An LCFC Hall of Fame is long overdue. It could go into the museum we were promised when the stadium opened in 2002.

Talking of promises I still haven't worked out where the re-creation of the Kate Street mural is located. Where is it Pete?

Giggs presumably misses out because of his off-field actions but Terry can stay in despite FA still banning him for the racial language used against Anton Ferdinand?

The Premier League does not care about racism.
