I think some pundits putting Potter in the frame haven’t entirely thought this through. I know we often say: “why would he go….?” when we look at players and managers leaving without really appreciating the draw of a big club. But there is a real case for asking that question here.

Potter’s name is riding high at the moment. Managers can easily live or die on their next managerial move when they’re in that rare position. History is littered with examples of how a manager has chosen badly and then fought for years to rebuild their reputation.

Everton is a poisoned chalice at the moment and is much more suited to an upcoming manager with “nothing to lose” or a jobbing manager that can withstand any damage to his reputation. The likes of Potter would be well advised to tread carefully

if i was them id go for nuno or the ex granada manager

Nuno is probably a good shout. Would at the very least shore up their defence and find some mid table stability until their recruitment improvement.

If Everton were smart which their not, they'd appoint Pearson and give him free rain to rebuild the club. Money isn't a problem. They just need to be patient.

Pearson is done mate. However much I love him

He was at his best with us, I has had a bad time everywhere since us

Cant see everton going down to the championship. Bottom 3 are total shite.

Ole

Lampard

Martinez

Big sam (caretaker).

Puel

Nuno

Woy (caretaker).

...What great options....

If Rodgers left us we would be linked with these exact people minus Puel and Allardyce.

Dyche isn't a bad shout for Everton. He has taken Burnley as far as they can go and they are unravelling now. I don't think the Everton fans would be inspired by the appointment but I think he could come in and establish the ones who aren't pulling their weight and will get them organised and doing the basics. Given Burnley's current situation he would jump at the chance to leave and manage Everton.

Going back in for Martinez would be pure madness, but I really wouldn't put it past them to do it.

If Dyche was ever appointed by us, I'd go and watch Nuneaton Borough until he was inevitably sacked 8 months later.

Actually you are wrong. His last game was a 3-0 defeat to Sunderland a few days after we lifted the premier league trophy.

But that doesn't suit my narrative though so shhh

The Everton model seems to be:

1. Spend half a billion on players.

2. Repeatedly appoint elite level managers with a track record of winning the biggest competitions.

3. Finish 15th.

4. Manager leaves, rinse and repeat.

I'm not sure that bringing in any big name managers will change this, at least not anytime soon, because it hard to see exactly what's wrong from the outside (to me it looks like the appointment strategy is dire - they seem to be flashing the cash for fairly disinterested players who no-one wants). But for whatever reason, they're a club that people struggle to care about. Including their own players.

I could see how appointing Rooney might work, though - they have had lots of experienced managers who have done nothing. At least he would bring a bit of identity and pride in the club.

I mean, they literally haven't finished that low since 2004.

Surely Rooney's in with a shout?

I think Dyche would be tempted now, but don't think Everton will look at him. He would probably get the best out of their current squad.

They would be brave to go for Dyche after Rafa - they weren't happy with the style of play apparently

Going back to Martinez is laughable. That's yet another appointment that reeks of desperation. That's literally a "we came 5th with him a few years ago so what can go wrong" despite loads of other circumstances.

They're a totally stupid club. I think this kind of season is gonna become their norm.

Exactly, as soon as Martinez put his own stamp on things at Everton it turned into a right mess. They finished in the bottom half twice with Lukaku, Baines, Coleman, Barkley, Stones, Jagielka, Barry etc. and that is when the rest of the league was weaker than it is now.

Didn't it turn really sour at Everton last time with Martinez at the end? Their fans fuses are short at the best of times, that is a recipe for disaster.

Love the idea of Potter saying "yeah, I'll just leave this club where I'm reasonably respected and get to enjoy the south coast to go up to the noisy neighbours of Merseyside, where expectations are unrealistic".

That's before you get to the squad.

He has to be hugely smart with his next move. Has to be right club etc otherwise he'll get caught up in club turmoil and flogged

yeah they need stability and structure. it's similar to us getting pearson after sven. this moshiri thinks he can just throw money at stuff and it will fix it.

can't stand dyche but it would be a great appointment for them i think
