BBC News - Colin Pitchfork: Double schoolgirl murderer can be released https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-57384393

I know this will be close to home for a lot of posters so thought I'd start a new thread.

Hard to understand why just 3 years ago he was deemed unsafe for release after around 30 years in jail, but now he is. I assume he won't be released the live locally and will likely have a new identity, so that's one thing I guess.

I remember posting about this when it came up in 2018.

He should never be allowed near Leicester again and particularly Enderby/Narborough/Littlethorpe.

I don't know where he is now but in 2018 there was a proposal that he was to be given a new identity and allowed to settle in Bristol.

People can't help talking to eachother and apparently there were protests about this in Bristol.

I don't understand the psychology and have no idea why a man, a family man at that, would kill two fifteen year old girls. How can anyone be absolutely certain that this man is not dangerous.

I don't agree with the death penalty even for the serious crimes that he has committed. If Priti Patel has supported the death penalty and has not publically recanted there must be something wrong with it for me.

Progress for me would be allowing him out into the community on such strict supervision (electronic tags and compulsory curfew) that while he might be allowed out to work and shop etc. he would have to live in some kind of closed community, probably with other similar offenders, and never be given the opportunity to meet people in the wider community that he might decide to attack. Much much more stringent than the rest of us have had to endure in lockdown.

Just my thoughts, I don't think he should ever be given complete freedom for the safety of all of us.

It's not a political decision, the government can appeal the Parole Board's decision but it needs to be based on an administrative error or such like.

Assuming I've understood what you've said.

I can’t see how this doesn’t end in public outrage meaning they change the decision. Beyond disguisting on all parts.

Pretty sure he's been allowed unsupervised day release and was spotted in Bristol.

I've seen plenty of reports and stories of drug addicts reforming, drug dealers reforming, thieves reforming, even some violent criminals reforming... but not much in the way of sex offenders reforming.  Prison is there for punishment, but it is also there to protect the public from dangerous people.  Pitchfork certainly falls into that category and he should remain behind bars.

he was so young when he went inside this was always giong to happen eventually. He will in all probability live another 30 years

So are you suggesting it’s right?

It still gives me the creeps whenever I drive through Narborough now, should rot behind bars.

Maybe he will get his comeuppance when he is released.

It is no different really to Huntley being released in another 15 or so years, yet no way on this planet would that happen so why Pitchfork?

For a two separate murders life should really mean life.

He was sentenced for rape and murder, in my book that’s capital punishment not just life behind bars.

I believe the law which allows for a whole-life term was enacted just one day after his conviction, which is why he wasn't given one.

I live quite near to the footpath/jitty and often walk down there with MrsG we often reminded of this and talk about it. She would never walk down there on her own even now. Hopefully moving soon not because of that though.
