Enjoy your night mate, Glasgow is yours tonight

I've been the sole Engländer in the boozer full of Scottish Argies, Scottish Croats, Scottish Germans and so on when we have lost before, and it wasn't very pleasant.

Thetefore, I know much better than to crow too early, so I'm waiting til after Friday.

If we roughly pump Scotland on Friday, I'll let them know.

Atcleast until we go out on penalties in the round of 16

Craig Brown on Sky Sports News last week saying he really believes they'll win it and doesn't think there are many better teams than Scotland on their day.

Their team in like 06-08 the first McLeish stint was miles better than this side, they've got a good left back a decent left back and two decent water carriers they've got absolutely nothing else

Just got in to see Scotland losing .

Going by the BBC  website they have done everything but score whilst the Czechs have had 2 moments of real quality whereas Scotland had very little .

A harsh lesson learnt for the Scots at the highest level?

That's true, i think some on here don't want to give Scotland any credit and the rivalry is colouring their views.

They did well enough but their defence was in a flap any time the ball got forward. Way too many free crosses given and the second goal, while very good, involved a keeper not even in his own half.

Saw the second goal and assumed it must've been the last minute but it was the 52nd lol great finish though.

Main reason people worried about Scotland is because of how up for it they'll be.

Other than the Czechs 2 moments of real quality they had 2 more gilt edged chances, one fell to Schik who really should have had a hat-trick. The pundits focused on what might have been for Scotland whilst ignoring that it could've been much worse.

So if Robertson and Tierney are good and decent.... What are Chillwell and Shaw? Sunday league in comparrison?

And that 07ish Scotland team that you've referenced? Iirc (which I do) our stand out best defender at that time was a 40 year old Davie Weir....

Chilwell and Shaw are better fullbacks than them.

It doesnt matter, I'd take Weir over your current centre backs but that whole team is miles better than the one you've got now and would've definitely qualified for that euros if it was as much of an open door as it is now.

Henderson withdrawing with a hip injury, really bad luck for the lad.

Ramsdale replacing him.

I didn't think you could replace players once the tournament had started, or that different for goalkeepers.

Genuinely baffled by the rhetoric around the game to be honest. It was a good example of why I don't really like Scotland in sport, particularly football, and never cheer them on, despite the fact I nearly always would for Ireland.

They're like the Newcastle United of the international world. They've never really been very successful but they hark back to former years like they were world beaters, they act like there's some sort of aura or mystique about them, like some sort of culture of deserving more or being special. For the Geordies, it's taking your shirt off and pretending that's a personality. For Scotland, it's wearing a novelty kilt or bonnet with a ginger wig and "roaring" at kick off. Or Tweeting in accented phonetics because you're oh so quirky (honestly, "Scottish Twitter" can get in the fvcking bin.)

And football media in this country buys in to it, treats them like they're special, waxes on about how great a chance they've got and how well they play. The Czechs played them off the park ffs, they Czechs created all the best moments.

I saw a headline that the Czech keeper was the hero and he saved the day? The best "chance" Scotland had? The best "save" the keeper made? Keeping out what would have been a freak own goal from a fairly harmless situation for fvck sakes.

There's a cult of Scotland like there's a cult of Newcastle or a cult of West Ham and it just annoys the shit out of me. You don't get any of that with either of the Irelands of Wales. We get some coverage, sure, but it's not weirdly fanatical and we're not talked up to be anything we aren't.

I think they've altered that rule this year with Covid

People who message like that don't do it to be "quirky".

Generally the folk who do it, left school early and instead of trying to type words that they can't spell, they type how they speak.

I personally don't do it but I know many people who do. It isn't a twitter trend, it's how these people genuinely type.

I'm old enough to remember the '77 trashing of Wembley by Scottish fans which was dismissed by the media as high spirits and a bit of a laugh. Not unlike those filthy Liverpool fans that that were portrayed as cheeky, loveable (and, of course, very' knowledgeable') Scousers as they smashed up and robbed every town they visited.

😆 see what I mean!

Yeah, because it's not like the English fans are known for causing trouble or absolutely trashing everywhere they go?

Of course they are (or were). The point is the likes of the Tartan Army and Scousers are portrayed differently by the media. England fans (and almost all other English supporters) don't get that soft soaping and quite rightly.

I'd like to be able to cheer on Scotland (and Wales, NI) as its all Brits together against the world but can't because of this small man syndrome that some North of the border seem to have.

*I don't mean you, Foxy, you seem alright.

I have no issues with admitting that any Scots have a chip on their shoulder and probably do suffer from small man syndrome.

However....

An English man moaning about the media coverage and bias towards Scotland is absolutely hilarious. It really is. It reminds me of when the Chelsea fans were complaining how the BBC were pro Leicester at the Cup final.

Rather than bias I would describe it more as patronising in Scotlands case.

In the cup final coverage I think the BBC recognised the LCFC back story that made for a more interesting neutral viewers experience.
