Scotland have a better league than countries like Denmark, Sweden etc + they benefit from having lots of Scottish players coming through Premier League academies. But Denmark &  Sweden regularly qualify for tournaments and do OK in them whilst Scotland are underachieving so much. Scotland used to produce great players, now they barely produce good players. Where has it all gone wrong?

I don't even think that's true tbf, look at the European performances of those 3 nations. Scottish League died when they stitched up rangers, could be on for a revival now but the damage had already been done

The Czech Republic have a very respectable record at the Euros for a smaller country.

Yeah but this is a shit side.

I was actually thinking about this earlier. The dramatic peaks and troughs of smaller nations and their golden generations.

Like the duality of Belgium and the Czech Republic. Look at a Belgian side circa like 2004 when the Czechs were close to their peak, you probably can't remember the vast majority of those players, they were utter rubbish. Now they're maybe top three in the world with genuine world class all over the place.

Czechs were sensational, one of the regular competitors for a few successive Euros, now they're pretty much rubbish, best players are a couple of mid table sluggers for West Ham.

Croatia could very well wind up going that way. They're already now nowhere near where they were at at the last world cup and even then, on paper, weren't at the heights they were at during the Bilic era. Little Country, small population, don't see too many stars coming through.
