Hopefully when the youngsters see Marc doing his prep, working hard in training etc that will rub off. Released on a free from Villa, he is the epitome of how it is possible to become one of the most respected figures in the game through application and hard work. He is a grafter and reliable. Mr dependable. It is all well and good being naturally gifted, but the lesson many youngsters need to learn is that is not always enough on its own. Put in the hard yards and the rewards will follow. All clubs need a senior statesman who quietly goes about their business, never makes any fuss, can still put in a performance when required and is a role model to those just starting out in their careers. He is our James Milner. I can actually see the club dong everything they can to keep him here until he eventually hangs up his boots, as we did with Morgan and Fuchs 5
