He'd never come here but Gasperini would be fantastic if only to see everyone losing their heads when they realise he prefers the dreaded back 3

Yeah he does. But he gets it to work there’s the difference.

We were linked tenuously with Roger Schmidt (in the Puel era, perhaps - might've been before he went to China) and I think he'd be a really tidy fit.

I like Brendan and want him to get the chance to iron out our issues - but he's being paid a king's ransom to churn out some absolute shite.

Not sure who etc is?

Seriously anyone thinking any of these 3 would come to us probably living in a parallel universe to me. Absolutely no chance.

We've been average to poor this season but we're still only 2 points of 6th. The top 3 are miles ahead of most of the rest and the rest are all ery close.

We were average to poor under Puel but got Rodgers in

They don’t necessarily have to be better, they need to be competent, obviously, but also simply different. You could make a case that a worse manager than Rodgers would get better results for the next year or so just by being different and able to instigate change.

As others have said far more eloquently, things have gone very stale after nearly 3 years of the same players and the same manager, many of whom will have spent even more time than usual together through the pandemic.

The club is at a really critical moment. Our talismanic star striker cannot possibly have more than another 18 months left at the top level and whilst the early signs are good that we have something resembling a replacement for his goals in Daka (and of course Iheanacho) it is a huge risk for us. Similarly as much as he divides opinion, the club captain probably only has 2-3 years left at the top level himself. People talk about goalkeepers going on forever but I don’t think there’s any playing regularly who are older than Schmeichel apart from Fabianski and Foster. Meanwhile our best defender is 33 and injury prone, our best player is running down his contract and 2-3 other important first team players will be out of contract in 2023.

Whether it’s Rodgers or somebody else, whoever is the manager in the next 18 months is going to have to oversee quite a traumatic overhaul of the playing staff whilst also meeting the club’s expectations on the pitch.

Potter would be the standout candidate for me, talk of Ten Haag (managing a superb Ajax side) or Gasperini (63, never managed outside Italy) is pie in the sky stuff. But I don’t think Potter would come here, he will get an offer from a club which is not headed towards a troubling looking period.

Lucien Favre would be a good choice too, has experience of overseeing big changes in his previous jobs. Again, might just be a bit too old to fancy this sort of challenge though.

So Potter or Favre for me.

Indeed but Zidane etc are way above our level. Zidane will be looking at the likes of Man utd not Leicester City. He'd be expecting a transfer kitty in the hundreds of millions not tens.

Any serious organisation has a list of people they want to employ and when it's a beneficial time for us and it's beneficial for the individual that's when you make your move to get them in whatever money you have to pay. That's what we did with Rodgers. Don't go through sacking a manager and have to look through a catalogue of people no one else wants.

I saw talk of Rodgers having verbally agreed to take over at Man Utd already, with Utd pushing for now but he wants to wait until the end of the season.

Likely bullsh!t but you never know. If he does go, a firm offer for Graham Potter that Brighton can't refuse would be my choice. The sort of offer that makes Potter's mind up for him as it shows that we'll back him.

My second choice is probably Sergio Conceicao, but it would be a hell of a risk.

Heard he was the favourite to take over too.
