I think City should play 433, at least to start.

I don’t know if my thought process makes sense, but: Tielemans is really good at passing through lines and into space, but we don’t have that.

Maddison is a good passer into space, but when he’s on his game, he’s also really good at using his first touch to get past the immediate pressure and create space ahead of him.

In a 433 with Barnes, Soumaré, Maddison, and probably Lookman, you’d have four players that are all decent at taking the ball forward by dribbling past players and creating attacking opportunities that way.

Is this a good idea or do we think we’ll get wrecked without 3 CBs?

Based on everything I've seen in the past year.

We'll always have a chance in this game as Tuchel is apparently one of the most negative managers in the world and tries to suffocate a game rather than just going out to win. When you have a manager that content to sit on a one goal lead, then the other side always has a chance.

I expect to see us sat in our own third and losing possession 30-40 yards from goal for the majority of the game. Probably see Vardy do his little jog and thumb up on the rare occasion we cross the half way line. Any ambition we show will be entirely dependent on when Chelsea score. Wouldn't expect to see us touch the ball in their box more than 5 times.

Despite all this, I'll be watching and hoping the boys to go out and run over Chelsea like a freight train.

You having a laugh, Tuchel negative? Yes, he may have the tightest defence having conceded 4 goals (that's a good thing) but they've also scored 27 at the same time! In the meantime, we've leaked 18 and scored 16. As the top scorers are Liverpool with 31, I think Tuchel seems to be doing something incredibly right don't you?

If you've sat for the last few months watching our dreary side to side and backwards pathetic nonsense, I can't see how you've got the gall to criticise Chelsea's style of play. No wonder people complain about the atmosphere down at the King Power, the on field displays leave the crowd comatose!

Can’t figure out whether Maddison or Kiernan DH will play in either a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-5-2. There is no way we aren’t playing 3 at the back in this one.

....if those are the options, then Rodgers will play safe and utilise Maddison!!!

Maddison has been dragged recently so the option of bringing on KDH is there either way. Also that is one guaranteed substitution lets hope we do not have to make a change in the backline due to injury, the possibility is Daka or Nacho will not become an option to come on.

I think you make a very good point, I'd go 433 too as arguably the extra midfielder allows us 1 better quality outfield player and less vulnerable in defence than 3 centre halves.

However for me, at best, Maddison is only worthy of a place on the bench. His displays for whatever reason have been poor and his last insipid, almost lazy  performance against Arsenal was fully deserving of a huge kick up the arse! Personally I'd have Iheanacho, Vardy and Barnes but with Daka and Lookman, there's plenty to choose from. Perez too showed far more fight and gumption than Maddison. We should be picking players  on current form and commitment, not past glories and media reputation.

A few calling for KDH, but I’ve not seen anything to suggest he’s ready to step in for YT.Not writing KDH off at all. I think he’s got many games ahead of him before any judgement can be made. It’s just I can’t see the evidence just yet that I could say with confidence that he’s a suitable deputy for Youri.

I suppose the only way for KDH to prove his worth is for him to be played and that might be the thinking here.

Tuchel is doing very well, hes doing a superb job. They're my favourites to win the league this season and have been since the summer.

Feel free to come back and laugh at me if the game doesn't pan out as follows though.

Chelsea dominate first half and take 1 or 2 goal lead into break.

Chelsea come out and sit in and attempt to stifle us, letting us pass the ball between our 5 defenders for minutes at a time.

Even though they're capable of putting 5 or 6 past us, he won't risk giving us much of a sniff at their end.

That team is unbelievably well drilled with every player knowing exactly what is required of them.

I have to agree. He's not impressed me at all so far.

Have to hope he's still adapting to the levels we compete in.

Think he’s looked better in his cameos than his starts. Appears rapid when on a cameo and much more reserved when he starts!

Youri's injury has escalated from "a couple of weeks out" 2 weeks ago to "he will be back before Xmas" (ie up to 7 weeks out) today. Classic Brendan, that.

Rodgers didn't say he'd only be a few weeks. He said he needed a scan. It was Tanner and the Belgian press who said he'd be out a few weeks was it not?

Rodgers never specifically spoke about this and timeframes.

Makes no difference what he says if it’s 5 weeks but back in 3 or 3 weeks but back in 5 he’s back when he’s fit or have you put money on it?

Trust me KDH is going to be fantastic for us. He just needs a real chance. Not the odd game here and there, a real run in the team.  I hope he gets his chance in this period but my gut tells me Soumare, Wilf and Mads are the most likely.

At least he's now closer to more minutes in the PL off the bench though and like Daka a few weeks ago, he then needs to take those chances and build on it.

Even in these cases, Rodgers gets asked on the spot minutes after the injury has occurred.

...it is the information he gives out after the assessment and initial treatment, weeks after the event, that is always worse than he had previously relayed!!!

I thought I'd inadvertently time travelled and found myself in the Match Thread!

Such optimism has got me brimming with positivity too 🤣

I fancy us to show up and turn them over COYB

Alas the nature of science and recovery.

We are certainly not party to everything what happens in the physio room. You won’t hear of fast recoveries

But that’s partly been brought on by himself being very public with it. Castagne’s remarkably quick recovery went under the radar.

Rodgers won’t be the first and he won’t be the last manager to be incorrect with recovery predictions. I think back to Dean Smith and Grealish last season. Smith said two weeks originally but it ended up two months.

                    Schmeichel
        Amartey - Evans - Söyüncü

Ricardo - Soumaré - Ndidi - Castagne

        Maddison - Vardy - Barnes

Maddison wide is usually rank, but plays more centrally in this system with Ricardo providing the width outside him, and can drop into those pockets of space. Also think playing with 2 in midfield suits Soumaré more as well, more similar to how he played in France.

I get what you are saying, but Maddison has looked a little better lately. Plus, since he’s been around for the international break, I’d have a feeling Rodgers would be spending a little time working with him to get him ready physically and mentally for Chelsea
