Piper said weeks ago that all the top sides do same. I think it is the personnel rather than system. I suspect the defenders don't trust KS and he certainly doesn't trust them, we are as nervous as kittens now.

I'd stick in big Dan for Soyuncu and tell Cags we see his future elsewhere, and not renew KS, who is on big money anyway.

....it could be possible that the vision of the Defence Coach is not the same as the Manager!!!

Perhaps he would set us up more defensively and lack the punch going forward, we have been successful before with these tactics, two seasons in the top 4 proves that.

We have lost our identity, our DNA so far as I see it is, we are a counter attacking team, Rodgers wants to transition to a team who retains position with the ability to control the game. The squad has no idea who they are as the mass media now constantly tells them, what they are, that they have made it, and they should be making the next step as they cannot move forward in the team that they currently play for.

We do need to define who we are, and if that is a team that seeks to control the game, we need to bring players in who fit that criteria. If we wish to be a counter attacking team then we need the personnel to fit that style of play. At this moment we are half in and half out, no direction and even less confidence, we need a shake up and that can only come from the manager.

I think what galls me most is losing to an inferior team. They were nothing. There was a lad in the middle who not some geat crunching tackles in, Mings with a couple of great headers and the keeper with a great save.

The others; mcginn, cash, buendia even Watkins wouldn't get on our bench. Fancy losing to that.as souness said, not even any good tactically. Just a 15 minute spell after half time where they upped the tempo.

Fckers.

There isn’t a player in their team I’d swap for ours …. But they played with more desire and a better plan.

Would seriously consider starting Amartey over Soyuncu at the moment. The bloke is an absolute liability. To me he doesn’t really sense danger or seem alert to it, always seems to pick the wrong time to go tight or sit off the striker and when balls come into the box he is all over the place, shocking defending from him yet again from a corner, not tight enough, half arsed effort.

I wonder how much impact Morgan and Fuchs leaving the dressing room has had this season. I can imagine they kept the likes of Thomas, Barnes and Madison in line.

...I am not sure why you would be looking to keep those individuals in check!!!

They are not our problem, our problem is an identity crisis, and the loss of Morgan and Fuchs tore a big part of it away, when they left.

Don’t think would be many takers at the moment for these so called ‘better’ players

there probably will be but maybe not to the clubs they were hoping for… I reckon we’ll sell someone to Newcastle.

We played well but conceded sloppy chances and didn't take our chances when they came .. not playing Ian is a big mistake he contributed to most of the good last season..

I think Barnes Thomas Maddison KDH Vardy Evans and Soy need to start every game Nididi was good in patches just something not clicking atm we are so clumsy and concede weak goals

Castange has been poor and Lookman even worse

Terrible season so far, be glad to stay up now as the defence is such a shocker it means if we score 2 goals in a game it’s probably only going to get us a draw.

I just hope there is a plan to reboot our defence come January or the summer.

....I would still like to see a Right Winger/ Forward come in...!!!

For the amount of ball he gets and his involvement in the game Lookman gives us no productivity. Someone with the ability to hurt the opposition and makes them pushing forward a bigger liability.

Bringing in Amoo, a player we have been linked with who plays on the right with a left foot, for £4m with the decision to get Berardi in the summer, could just change our fortune.

But he barely played last season. Granted he was there in the background, but not sure it’s a good explanation for on field mistakes and lack of leadership.

...Rogers said he had an effect on the dressing room!!!

We do not know the dynamics of the squad environment, but the heart could have been ripped out of the team when the senior professionals retired.

The venom directed at the team and manager in the first two pages of this post was sheer knee-jerk stuff - inaccurate and mardy. After ploughing through that mire, I got bored and offended by the rubbish I was reading.

The team played their best football of the season in the first half. Barnes, Thomas, KDH, Daka, Maddison - all were dominating the play. Of the rest, they did okay - only Lookman was really ineffective. What price Ünder now!

So why the complete reversal in the second-half? Is Gerrard and his crew that good at strategy, that he could change it around so radically in fifteen minutes? All Rodgers had to say was to keep going for their throats. One thing I'll state was that Maddison disappeared. He moved back about twenty yards and remained anonymous for the rest of the game.

Sure, the defence is fallible. Only Evans looked reliable and physically a match for their bigger men. Same at Southampton. Fofana and Justin are needed - not so much technically, but to bring some muscle back to the back line.

Rodgers substitutions were puzzling. Daka is a continuous threat and needed to stay on. Perez really does nothing - he's always 30% short in effort and guile. There's a fine footballer in there but he rarely emerges. Madders, for all his recent improvement, looks like a man with a grudge.

That old adage springs to mind - 'a defeat snatched from the jaws of victory'.

Bar Daka, the summer signings are looking distinctly sub par. They were supposed to supplement the team - instead we're relying on preexisting squad members to cover the gaps the new recruits were supposed to fill. One decent full-back would have sufficed.

i think we just write off this season (provided we don't drop into Championship) and go again next season.

his contract is up to 2025. we are stuck with him for a while

A season start is so important and that Fofana injury just set the tone. Need a big Summer clear out with some decent buys to supplement returning players.

Would be interesting to see how they practice set plays. Usually in a game you've two big aggressive centre backs to deal with and possibly another big striker - we've known for years, even before conceding multiple from them every week, scoring from indirect freekicks was incredibly rare. There's been no big man to viciously attack the ball in practice to defend against in training for several years; Iborra, Ulloa, Morgan, Maguire, Huth et at. are gone, all we have now is Vestergaard, maybe Ndidi.

Rodgers said before, way earlier in his tenure he didn't want to sign a 'lamppost'(omit Yannick ), but they have their uses. While players are still allowed to head the ball it's a major component of the game, you can't kick the ball now if it's too far up in the air. We wouldn't have to rip up our entire playstyle, just add versatility.

Also if we're going to continue to leave last season's top goalscorer on the bench 95% of the time, who's still a sellable age, we might aswell cash in and sign a different type of player who offers something we haven't got ... I don't know, a tricky technical winger? A big ****ing CF with heaving blunt elbows?

When you think of the defences tenacity on the Premier League winning seasons it's a million miles away.

I always thought Danny Simpson's protection of far crosses was really under valued.

Huge shortcomings all of the way round here - What do they do at the new training facility - The record since they moved there must be appalling (aside from the FA Cup run and win of course!))

Barnes goal was nice though

It was a promising game at the start. Made me quite optimistic.

Anybody would think Brendan had passed a few joints around the dressing room at half time considering how slow our reactions became.

The lack of confidence in the second half was worrying. We are expecting to concede goals now and that isn't good for team spirit.

I don't know what the answer is regarding set pieces. At the very least go back to basics and stick a man on the far post. I do think it stems from Kasper's inability to control the air but that isn't going to change now.

Played alright first half but terrible second.

Apparently a lot of the players are massive F1 fans and were distracted by wondering what was happening in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
