As we win so many trophies...

 

This cup is probably our most likely glory this season, possibly.our best chance of another season in Europe.

I can't believe some of our fans think the League Cup is below us. Shame.

be cool to win the trophy but i really couldnt be arsed going into the conference league.

The debate on whether this is a “Mickey Mouse” cup is worth further scrutiny. In the hierarchy of competitions it’s definitely behind others: Premier League, European Success, FA CUP. Is the only trophy we won for the first 131 years of our history actually worth winning?

 

Well the evidence since the turn of the century suggests that it’s only the biggest and most successful clubs that tend to win it:

2000 Leicester City, 2001 Liverpool, 2002 Blackburn Rovers (PL at time), 2003 Liverpool, 2004 Middlesbrough (PL at time), 2005 Chelsea, 2006 Manchester United, 2007 Chelsea, 2008 Tottenham Hotspur, 2009 Manchester United, 2010 Manchester United, 2011 Birmingham City (PL at time), 2012 Liverpool, 2013 Swansea City (PL at time), 2014 Manchester City, 2015 Chelsea, 2016 Manchester City, 2017 Manchester United, 2018 Manchester City, 2019 Manchester City, 2020 Manchester City, 2021 Manchester City

 

I would imagine that fans of some clubs that consider themselves big would love to get their hands on an actual trophy: Newcastle, Spurs, Everton, Aston Villa et al. Winning silverware perpetuates success and helps change the mindset of those who think good players need to leave clubs like Leicester to win anything.

 

The advent of European Competition or, more accurately, the finances available for being successful in Europe has led many to take the cups less seriously. First the League Cup and then the FA Cup. It suddenly becomes important, however, if you’re not the one club who can win the Premier League – and it may not even be an English club that wins European Competitions. It’s vital for managers to keep their jobs and for fans not to get disillusioned. That’s why in the League Cup the biggest clubs take it seriously in the later rounds and, generally, win it.

 

This nonsense about “Mickey Mouse” cups is something that started with entitled fans of the very biggest clubs trying to deride the achievements of clubs who hadn’t been able to win the Premier or Champions League. That’s the vast majority of them. Let’s not become like those entitled, plastic fans – it’s the kind of mentality that creates the momentum for the European Super League.

If he didn't travel because he was waiting for a PCR, than there is a reason he didn't travel because he was waiting for a PCR. My guess would be a positive LFT.

 

Of course, that means there is something COVID related with Barnes. He could have a niggle or even be in Liverpool, and just not in the photos, and his doppelganger wanted a coffee.

Daily LFT tests before entering the training ground/stadium and PCR tests twice a week is the latest protocol
