We will get some result at ,PSV I thought they were poor ,Nd we won't park the bus like they did .

Maybe they are just like us, absolutely abysmal away from home but mustard at home? I think can get a result but such confidence like this with how bad we've been away from home is quite the surprise. Out of interest just how bad would we have to be for you not to think we'd get a result? 😂

Too true. A wound self-inflicted through lack of foresight or perhaps even administrative incompetence. Let’s hope it doesn’t prove fatal.

Now I get why he did it, Albrighton provides more defensive cover especially cause KDH is the most forward of the midfield trio but what he didn't see was that, it stunted out attacks, we would have been so much better with Maddison playing as the most forward of a midfield trio with KDH dropping back a bit to support Youri and still have Albrighton do his thing with Justin on the wings

He would have seen it - it would have been a pragmatic decision to try not to concede. Being stronger defensively, we no longer have to score 2 goals to stay in a match or score 3 to win it.

However, as we have to get some sort of result I expect tactics at some point to get more open.

Let's just hope that BR doesn't put his Pep Guardiola costume on again and start dicking around with egotistical tactics like playing with no striker for 15 minutes in a European quarter final.

We are capable of getting a hard fought result here but I want to see basic Rodgers, not strange Rodgers who makes ridiculous changes.

We need someone playing DM to sit back, link the play and allow our other midfielders to run the show. Ideally it would be Mendy, but as he’s unavailable the only other similar option is Soumare. He’s had some howlers yes, but he did ok in this role Vs Liverpool at home & Newcastle.

Schmeichel

Ricardo

Fofana

Evans

Castagne

Soumare

Tielemans

KDH

Maddison

Daka/Iheanacho/Barnes/Lookman

I thought they were a very good well organised team who offered a threat from many areas. In return we played well particularly defensively. If we had played that match earlier in the season we would have lost. The most disappointing thing from our side was giving the ball away too easily and our play in the final third. It will be even tougher at their place but I do think we have another gear from what we showed last week and if we do that then it is going to be a great game. We badly missed Vardy.

I always find it interesting that when a manager tries an unusual tactic that doesn't work, it's deemed to be driven by arrogance or ego.

But if it works, it's a tactical masterstroke!

Without Mendy, I think we need some more soliditity, interchangeable between 4 and 3 at the back. Maddison playing further inside and not stuck out of the game like he kind of was against Palace.

                      Schmeichel

            Castagne Fofana Evans

Ricardo, Tielemans Dewsbury-Hall Justin

        Maddison Iheanacho Barnes

I wonder whether it would be a good idea to start Lookman instead of Barnes.  On the basis of the first leg their RB will be expecting to have our LW in his pocket from the start so Lookman would present a different problem for him.  Having Barnes available to be brought on later, hopefully when PSV were tiring, might be a late move that could decisively swing the match our way.

I agree on the issue of a midfield 3 of KDH, Tielemans and Maddison. We have to get some form of a DCM in IMO. I have concerns about Soumare's lack of tracking though so I think this is a game for Hamza.

Not in this instance.

Playing without a striker or your midfielders in their natural position is just idiocy.

I don't think Pep is a genius when he does it and he has world class players all over the pitch. He's lost or drawn games where they have been toothless due to his 'genius'

BR doing it with our midfield was frankly ridiculous

Oh and you don't carry out your wacky experiments in that stage of European competition.

Is that right? You must have done some counting…

The Europa Conference League squad had to be submitted in early Feb - at a time when Mendy had played wonderfully in getting Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations final (which they went on to win, with Mendy voted into the official Team of the Tournament). Was Rodgers watching him, or indeed getting advice to do so, I wonder?…

You can defend the decision to pick the likes of Soumare and Perez in the squad ahead of him all you like, but in my opinion - and I said it at the time, long before Ndidi got injured - making Mendy ineligible for Europe was a strange move. It even made me think back to Ajax accidentally leaving Haller out of their Europa League squad last year…

Let’s just hope his absence - and the control that he brings to our midfield - doesn’t come back to haunt us on Thursday. 🤞

yeah, I think I agree actually, that was one of the toss ups alongside Ricardo/Albrighton

I get what you are saying but the problem is that, unlike Mendy, Hamza is not comfortable receiving the ball from the defence or transitioning it quickly and efficiently to the likes of Youri and KDH. So not sure his inclusion is a good thing either.

I think it's probably because we've shown relegation form away from home this season and it's been equally as iffy in the cups.

How is your support in away games? 90 minutes full on with the entire away end or more in phases?

We play really well when the atmosphere is really good. Like raucous and flares and shit. So probably best if you don’t create an intimidating atmosphere at all because we’ll play badly then. Please pass this on

Definitely phases (at best). We have had some good away ends but usually when we have been successful such as Randers and Rennes was good. However, if we lose, it goes flat very quickly.

...did it actually get that high!!!

Reactionary voters, you can't take much notice from a forum, straight after a disappointing result.

I think its unlikely Soumare is going to come from nowhere and start this game. It will be a Tielemans, Maddison and Dewsbury-Hall 3 I'm sure of it. Choudhury is possible if he was to bring someone in.

So some advocate three at the back for this one.  Three at the back has been heavily criticised on this forum.

Some want Soumare back...

Jeez

A lot of overthinking going on.

I feel like PSV will have the edge in this one. Home crowd in full voice, you'd imagine they'll give it a right go. Based on the fact we've been dog muck away from home most of the season, I can't help but seeing PSV run a train over us. All depends on how much bottle they have. They showed us far too much respect at our gaff.
