I’m not sure I buy the confidence that people are extracting from PSV’s first leg performance. I’m sure they are saying the same about us.

I’m having flashbacks to the Slavia tie last year when there was a real arrogance after the first leg from the manager and players. Lots of moaning about the pitch and comments about us beating them once we get them to the KP. I think they felt like it would be a walk in the park on our pitch but instead we put in a really flat, low energy performance and Slavia deservedly won.

PSV played very conservatively in the first leg but will no doubt play more of their natural game tomorrow. Add to that the fact they have home advantage and it’s clear that we are going to need to play well to beat them.

Totally agree

tomorrows game will be won/lost in the mental attitude of the two sides

both are capable of going through - with home advantage, psv are favourites

He said 5 very, very good centre backs.

Fofana. Evans. Amartey. Soyuncu.

Who's the other one

Ndidi does well when he plays there so he obviously means Wilf.

Pre-match Press Conference vs PSV - Brendan Rodgers

PSV?

“We’ll go with a real positive mentality. It’s all to play for. It’s important for us to be positive and aggressive. We’re used to playing important games.”

Staying over in Eindhoven on Thursday night?

“It helps with the quick turnaround. We look at every detail, and it suits us for the upcoming games. We can train here on Friday afternoon.”

Schmeichel future?

“He’s been a brilliant servant and he’s playing at a really high level. He’s playing with a calmness. We’re relaxed on it. We’ll get an idea of what he’s thinking.”

PSV distracted by Dutch Cup final?

“Any football manager or team, it’s always about the next game. I don’t think it will be a factor.”

Preparation?

“We’re not on holiday, we’re there to do a job. It’s about the culture. The game day is relaxed but focused. We have a group of players who enjoy being with each other. That connection is there.”

First time in European semi?

“To be the first to do anything is always nice. We’re a club that is unlike PSV. They have qualified for Europe 48 years on the trot. We are ready to grasp it. The first leg gives us motivation.”

How importance is experience?

“Experience is important. You saw that in the Real Madrid and Chelsea game. That calmness and reassurance. We’ve got a good mix of senior and younger players.”

Dewsbury-Hall?

“He’s a wonderful demonstration of someone who works very hard. If you work hard, opportunities will come your way. What is very important is he keeps proving a point. He’s been a revelation. He’s got great human qualities. His humbleness and his vision of where he wants to go is very clear. Being a top player is proving yourself every game.”

Preparing team?

“We’ll have a meeting and talk through the different scenarios. We have to play with calmness, but with emotion, and aggression.”

Squad?

“We’re not the deepest squad in terms of quality. The weekend’s game was a classic example. We make seven changes and those players all have confidence after Thursday’s game. We’re in the business part of the season. Hopefully we can take the positive of the performances into the game.”

Fresh injuries?

“No, everyone’s fine.”

Vardy?

“That was last night. We’ll see over the course of the next week what effect that brings. Hopefully it can be positive news for us.”

Biggest game of the season?

“I think it’s a great opportunity for us. I never tend to look at any game more or less in terms of whether they are big or not. Every game is a big game. Every game is an opportunity. We have a chance to go to a semi-final. It’s not a final yet, but it’s a very important one. We’re excited about it, we want to go and put in a performance for our supporters and ourselves.”

What need to do differently?

“Taking opportunities. That’s key. I think there will be more space for us in the game. PSV played deeper than what they usually would. At home, they will look to go and attack. That will be the ethos and the supporters will want them to do that, which is also good for us because it gives us more space than we had in the first leg. With that space we know we can create problems. It’s about keeping the speed in our game and keeping calm. We know we have players who can score goals.”

With the early kick-off time, I wonder whether Fofana will be able to break his fast at any point during the game? I don't think sunset is officially until about 8pm, so if he can't, will he be risked?

Wish we had more class depth in midfield, KDH and YOURI have played a lot lately and will needed to play again , with no ndidi or mendy we are running on empty.

Dewsbury-Hall?

“It’s great to see. Kiernan’s done incredibly well this season. It’s important he’s given time and space to mature. We’ve got a player on our hands if he’s kept out of your limelight."

He’s such a Big Nige disciple 😂

This is quite a good idea. Good they can train on Friday and not rush back.

Odd given how good we were on Sunday, probably our best performance in the league for several games and that was with a much changed team and the complete opposite to what he's said.

Look, there are a few players who I expect would require a flu bug racing through the camp before they got more than 5 minutes on the pitch, especially given the fact we went from no CB's and FB's to having almost too many. They know it, we know it, why not admit it?

According to Betfair, PSV are strong favourites tomorrow but we’re more likely to win the competition…🤔

We were joint favourites to win the Europa League, outright markets are influenced by fans betting on their sides & other English fans betting due to greater familiarity

.....I saw Wanya Marcal playing as a DM in the U23s and he looked solid and organised in the position!!!

Not sure why he was playing there, but he was effective and looked born for the role. Big jump to bring him in for a European Quarter Final though, but we might need to take another look at him there.

They were probably just experimenting. The u23s often play in different positions eg: Braybrooke as a sweeper, Alves was playing CM the other week and Wanya has covered at wingback before.

I wouldn’t want to see Wanya at DM personally, but its difficult to say what his best position is because he’s so versatile. I’m guessing he will probably end up as a box to box RCM/LCM in a 4-3-3.

There is also the fact that we seem to play better as the "plucky little underdog" than as the favourites. Rodgers might be pushing that narrative.

But lets face it: We have one available CDM for the match, and he's our fourth choice in the position.

If we beat these we'll pretty much have a game every 3 days til the end of May.

Brilliant, isn’t it :scarf:

Defence we're stacked to be fair because we have 2 back 4s capable of playing top half premier league football. Midfield and wide positions less so.
