Our city probably wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Romans haha

It was here before the Romans

Long before the Romans conquered Britannia, Leicester was already an important town in its own right - A tribal capital and a cultural hub. This video explores Iron Age Leicester and the surrounding county to understand why it was such an important target for the Roman invaders.

True, bit if it wasn't for the river soar they wouldn't have come in the first place

But it's there and they did so that's a moot point.

Leicester was unironically one of, if not the powerhouse of the Midlands up until the Norman Conquest, Brythonic tribal capital of the vast swathe of the East & West Midlands, one of the bigger Roman cities in the area, cultural and economic centre of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia (which controlled more or less all of England through direct ownership or vassals at one point), maintained that status to be more or less the de facto capital of the Five Boroughs of Danelaw.

Up until Richard III was dug up its amazing how much we squandered our history, especially when we have probably one of the better freestanding examples of Roman architecture freestanding slap bang in the city centre ffs.
