Those lists never take into account the incidents that should have been given but were just passed over by VAR after a quick check.

We had one on Sunday. Traore brought down for an obvious pen but nothing given on field and about a 10s check with nothing.

The Treasury’s sanctions police have been reviewing the finances of the Everton Football Club owner Farhad Moshiri, the Guardian understands.

Moshiri appears to have become a person of interest to the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) because of his links to Alisher Usmanov, the Russian-Uzbek billionaire who was sanctioned by the UK, the EU and the US after last year’s invasion of Ukraine.

Usmanov has also been barred from entering the UK since September 2021 after his presence was “not deemed conducive to the public good”.

The apparent interest in Moshiri coincides with months of reporting by the Guardian, which has raised questions about the influence Usmanov has exerted over Moshiri and the Premier League club, including how the Russian tycoon came to attend job interviews with a series of prospective Everton managers before March 2022.

It also follows a Guardian report that revealed how the club’s auditor, BDO, stepped away from signing off the club’s accounts last year – a decision which sources said was related to the ownership of the Premier League team.

Unless you’re going to go through every call and game with a fine tooth comb I’m not sure that this means anything

does anyone remember a var call this season that actually changed the outcome of a game against us ??

VAR wasn't brought in for every call, it was brought in to fix big blunders.

Both the Sabitzer & Guimares tackles should have been red, both when the games were in the balance.

No, but there’s two that stick out that could’ve gone our way and potentially changed games. Sabitzer on Tielemans & Guimares on Soumare. Both knee high tackles, studs on knee in the first half with the game at 0-0.

appreciate that but this article was looking at VAR calls that had been made. no way will anyone assess what wasn’t made - too subjective

I know plenty of unbiased fans (and some on here) who thought the Bruno one was not a red - hence it’s definitely not a howler.

the sabitzer one is tough to argue with because of his straight leg and turned back on faes. However, there were still enough people who didn’t think it was a red to take it out of howler territory.

if both are given by the ref then neither are overturned - but we never went through the season’s poor referee calls in the past !

I was interested to know if anyone could recall points that a var call had actually lost us this season …..

A large number of fans don't even understand the laws of the game or the guidelines for a tackle to be deemed a red card.

I've lost count of the number of times I heard people say it ok because x player won the ball, which isn't even mentioned in the laws.

Keith Hackett former head of the PGMOL and league referee said the Bruno one was a straight red, Dermot Gallagher former PL referee and Graeme Souness agreed Sabizter was as well.

I recall Gallagher saying that the player was ‘a lucky boy’ on both occasions. There are other occasions this season (where a red hasn’t been recommended by var) where he has stated that it’s just an error and should have been called red by var.

to me that’s Gallagher saying that if he was the ref then he’d have issued a red card but var isn’t there to re referee  incidents - I think that’s where most pundits etc become confused - they think it should be deciding subjective calls

anyway. We are in danger of becoming two fat blokes arguing over a biscuit …

I hope we have a chip on our shoulder for as long as Forest, Derby, Cov, Pompey and Sheff United fans have about our administration promotion over the absolute disgrace that it is that Everton will get a points deduction AFTER we've been relegated for financial offences that helped us go down.

I seriously hope the club pursues legal action against them when they're punished. Unfortunately I worry that, just like on the pitch, we're too ****ing nice.

Telegraph, yesterday:

There is more to come. Staying in the league is just the start of it and, of course, it would actually have been easier for the Premier League executive had they gone down. The next battle is a big one – Everton have been charged with a breach of the league’s profit and sustainability rules, which used to be known as financial fair play, and if found guilty could face a points deduction.

How will Leicester City, Leeds United and even Southampton react? This remains unchartered territory, a potentially toxic can of worms. A watch this space.

And so, for Everton, it means yet more uncertainty. Yet more fear and confusion. They remain in the Premier League, yes, but for how much longer unless there is the change of ownership, a new board and a new approach? It needs to be a seismic summer.

That last sentence. They could be allowed to completely restructure and rebuild before they're even ****ing punished. Shitshow governance.

Get instantly promoted and then pump them 5-0 in their first Premier League game at their new stadium as they endure an 01-02 style season sparked by us.

From the Athletic article:

An executive at another Premier League club — who, like others in this piece, spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation — feels it reflects a “failure to regulate the league properly” during three decades of spectacular growth since its founding in the early 1990s.

This is going to get extremely toxic.

I have no hope in this Tory government even noticing anything wrong, but I hope when we get Labour in they force changes (and charges) through.

Only problem with that is that the current Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is a Man City fan.

Must have been tough to swallow with the game being so close
