pazzerfox Posted 8 August 2022 Posted 8 August 2022 Fulham have bid accepted. Looks like they've turned to Diop after Vestergaard rejected them. 2

Lambert09 Posted 10 August 2022 Posted 10 August 2022 (edited) This signing makes me more nervous than excited. If it is the only winger we go for at least. I just cant shake off Ghezzal, I really cant. At 22 Ghezzal had 8 G's and 8 A's. At 21 Diop had 6 G's and 4 A's It was Ghezzals best season but the fact they dont seem to want him really makes me cautious, especially as they dont need money. I went on their forum and most of the talk is just after he scored the winner, but in general their is a theme.. he's not doing as well as he can. The talent is their but he makes poor decisions. Which is unusual as you can play like muck and our forum makes you sound like a king, if you score the winner. It does however, sound like they would prefer him to stay as if he clicks, he could be quite some player. A comment I found interesting though was about the champions league match and why he'd been dropped "He is simply not ready for a match where the pressure is enormous..." something that many of our squad also seem to struggle with Edited 10 August 2022 by Lambert09

He's got 14 goals and 6 assists in Ligue 1 and another 2 goals and 2 assists in Europe. The thing with Ghezzal was, he had 1 blistering half a season for Lyon where nearly all his goals and assists came and that's why there was caution from those that follow the league. I do find it odd that Diop might be available though as he was being trumped up last season amongst the footballing twitterati and the likes of Scouted Football, Tifo etc and he had a solid and promising season but nothing special. But the general consensus was he'd be a very difficult purchase for anything under £40m and it would be an elite club that com3 for him in a year or two at that value.

What I see is the difference between him and Ghezzal is his confidence to take the game to the opposition, whereas Ghezzal was reticent to run into space we broke on teams. He (Ghezzal) is different now at his latest team, and it is either a lower standard or he now feels at home.
Ric Flair Posted 10 August 2022 Posted 10 August 2022 If you don't have pace at this level then you are unlikely to make it. Diop is quick and with skill it gives him more of a chance. 4

I honestly like the profile of the signing, I just thought that it would be paired with lookman or madueke.

Diop has played just as much on the right as he has the left with similar output so he's better in that regard at playing RW than Lookman was. He's 2nd on my list of non left footed right wingers behind Rayan Cherki who's both footed.
Lesta2014 Posted 14 August 2022 Posted 14 August 2022 Nixon reporting a swap deal could happen with Soumare.

Haywood_6 Posted 14 August 2022 Posted 14 August 2022 Just watched the goal against Strasbourg. Was an easy tap in. The swap would be a good idea though. We badly need some options out wide.
LFox99 Posted 14 August 2022 Posted 14 August 2022 The problem is what do we do for the time being while Barnes is out? Start Diop on the left and play Perez on the right? Will Perez even be here at the end of the window?
Deeg67 Posted 14 August 2022 Posted 14 August 2022 I just don’t get why we need a RW and we keep shuffling through LW. Drop can play on the right but he’s primarily a left winger. 1

The starting line up with wingers will have Barnes left and Maddison right, with KDH, Youri and Ndidi making up the midfield. Diop plays as much as a right winger as he does on the left but I also agree that ideally we would want a right winger who excels at playing on the right primarily.
