Here lies the issue though, the club cannot allow Rodgers to recruit his own players and at the same time Rodgers then needs to work well with the players the club does recruit. There needs to be joined up thinking and it's a bit of a grey area on where the finger is being pointed for last summers disasters. Rodgers seems more than happy to recognise when signings haven't worked out and either not play them or get rid, it's actually quite alarming how many this has happened to under him, not to mention the loan signings not then signed permanently. Praet Perez Bennett Ünder Vestergaard Soumare I don't think you can stick those two one was an emergency and and the other was never going to be good enough to pay 22m for post loan, so why invest time in him once that is clear. So for me that leaves Praet, Perez, Soumare and Vestgaard. Perez has made a 100 appearance, and I think would have played more this season without injuries and niggles, he season never really going after the red at West Ham. Vesty has been a complete disaster and I have no problem with us making a quick decision. Praet didn't want to be a squad player. No club get every signing right 3

We’ve already decided that is too much work and looking to sell. We’ve been unbelievably poor in our recruitment last summer. Nearly as bad as 2016. You should not have believed the ludicrous hype that went on on here last summer. KDH, who cost nowt , has outperformed all the signings and most of the squad in fact. We cannot afford another summer of unproven , overrated under performers. 3

Can’t just add a bunch of players- not got the wage budget for it even if they are freebies. But it is worth noting that we haven’t transfer listed them, we’ve just said we’d listen to offers. I doubt there’s huge movement behind the scenes to unsettled them and force them to move on./ Personally I think that’s just a smart way of giving ourselves a better hand in negotiations, to me it’s as good as being transfer listed. 1
westernpark Posted 25 May 2022 Posted 25 May 2022 So we’ll be on the lookout for central midfielders regardless of Tielemans. I think it’s too soon on Soumare, I would argue this reflects badly on the manager and club rather than the player, especially after limited playing time over a season. Soumare,Praet, Tielemans and possibly Mendy to go. I hope we replace at least one of these with a bstard, who kicks anything that moves.

I can only imagine that he’s off the field troubles aren’t resolved by him staying. More money wasted by the club. Soumare has looked terrible. I’d be more than happy to take a loss on him and put that towards another player. 6 1

It was Brendan. “Patson [Daka] and Bouba [Soumare], this is going to be a year of adaption for them: they’re going to be important players for us, of course, and make a really good contribution, but I’m relaxed on their development this coming season” We’ve evidently given up on that.

The key is “make a really good contribution” Daka has had his moments and shown flashes that you can be patient with. I personally don’t feel like Soumare has shown anything that makes me feel optimistic about his future at this club. 4
GingerrrFox Posted 25 May 2022 Posted 25 May 2022 Never really given a chance in his natural position. It would be a shame to see him leave as he is quite clearly talented. 1

AjcW Posted 25 May 2022 Posted 25 May 2022 So a quarter of this rebuild is rebuilding what we tried to rebuild last summer? 1 2

Shane Posted 25 May 2022 Posted 25 May 2022 So we’re losing 4 central midfielders this summer? Soumare, Tielemans, Praet and probably Choudhury. Doesn’t leave us with much depth. Brendan did say we need to sign 2 midfielders this summer, so lets just hope we get it right. We cannot afford to sign some Vestergaard esque flops in midfield. 1

No club get every signing right Of course no club gets every signing right but we're not far off about 50/50 I'd stagger a guess at? We must do better than that, this is what we pride ourselves on as a way of competing with the big 6. I don't mind Rodgers acknowledging when he realises a player isn't currently/ever good enough and acting but history also shows that binning players off less than a year in to bringing them in would have prevented many successful players both here and in the history of the PL from doing what they did.

I think In terms of depth were losing 3 as Praet was already as good as gone imo. Hamza I think we can afford to lose (I feel like he’s only been kept for the homegrown quota) we need to sign another midfielder who can play CDM if required but offer more in terms of driving forward (Sangare) & another No.8/10 like Eriksen. would leave us with: CDM - Ndidi, Mendy, Sangare No.8 - KDH, Sangare, Eriksen No.10 - Maddison, Eriksen 1

In doing so your freeing up wages on Youri, Praet, Hamza & Soumare which I can imagine to be at least £200k a week. Then you are also bringing in around £60m in fee’s… Youri £30m, Praet £10m, Hamza £10m, Soumare £10m. Minus £25-£30m for Sangare that then leaves you with £30-£35m in transfer fee’s. 1
