Totally understand Southgate picking Phillips ahead of the leading midfielder for goal contributions. Phillips contributions for MC this season have been outstanding and he’s totally justified his 56 minutes of PL playing time.

While he's still at Leicester, he's got a job to do, which has nothing to do with Southgate's shitshow.

 

What's important is Rodgers' shitshow -- i.e. keeping it in the Premier League

I don't know why Maddison bothers turning up for England squads. Southgate is more likely to play the third choice keeper in midfield than him.

Can't believe anyone is surprised Maddison didn't get on tonight. Was never going to happen anyway but the way the game went meant it was definitely not happening. He was also never going start maddison instead of Phillips, regardless of club minutes, and play Rice on his own away to Italy.
