I agree, it's par for the course in this situation. I just look at our wage bill and try and work out how we lower it by about a third and still try and compete.

I think the only way you do that is the conveyor belt of buy low / progression  / sell high has to be on optimum.

We seem to be trapped somewhat right now though.

At the moment at lot of players floated as potential targets are not coming here for less than £4 million a year.

We've massively overpaid players, you could argue that's what PL clubs without the stature and reputation of the big 6 have to do to get the sorts of players we go for but they double their salaries or more and it's not as if they're coming from powerhouses either. Look at Praet, he was on about 40k at Sampdoria, even if we only offered 60k it's a damn sight more than they'd get anywhere else other than the PL.

If our ambitions were not so high , we could eventually knock 20-30% off the wage bill but try selling that to the fans. We need to generate income that doesn't involve transfer dealing. The stadium is too small and that is a major obstacle but we need to make the LCFC brand sexy and that requires a marketing force with imagination.

Brilliant news.

Lets hope he builds on last year and we aren't faced with another situation where we've a bright academy prospect who's been chuffed up serious wages to be in line with the senior players of this squad for 5 years but then fades away and is stuck here. I'm confident that won't happen but there's still an element of the unknown.

Clubs are usually renowned for taking advantage of local academy lads in terms of not rewarding them financially. Not saying that's a good thing to do but weird we apparently don't do that.

Great news for him the club and the other youngsters in the academy. Hopefully other youth players will see how he’s been patient and gone out on loan and now reaping the rewards .

Yeah, with emphasis on the 5000/1 literal miracle

Pffff no way is that anywhere close to reality. The club aren't as stupid as we think they are, give them at least some credit. He'll have been put on something around 30k per week, that way if he keeps performing we can keep giving him raises to encourage him further.

Dream on, he was on more than that last season. He will be on a minimum of 70k, probably more

Peters said his wages will be aligned will other first team players which would make £60-70k per week realistic. I highly doubt he's on £30k and if Rodgers has stated a serious desire to keep him (which he will have done) then the club will have rewarded him with a good wage

....yes we are quite generous and you could look at it as poor/lazy negotiation !!!

...if we did not aspire to be better, we would be looking over our shoulders!!!

We keep coming back to infrastructure, and the investment we are putting in at this moment, and we do not plan to invest £100m every season erecting buildings. The additional gate receipts will help, but that is not where the real money is. Bringing in FBS with a larger advertising revenue stream is a start, merchandising is another stream but I believe there is a ceiling for this.

Maintaining our position in the Premier League is our real "golden egg", we cannot afford to not look to finance this.
