Great news for Kiernan and well deserved. Sets a great example for other academy prospects and hopefully we will see a few more breaking through in the coming season. We are going to need them and hopefully they will become the lifeblood of the team.

Unpopular opinion alert - if he plays more than half of the PL games next season and we still play our current formation/system, we will be bottom half.

Fully deserving of the contract but needs to improve his output to make his work rate

To be fair, he's on an upward trajectory and he will know better than anyone that his output needs to improve, Brendan's been telling him all season.

Fact is, this time last year he was hoping to break through into the team. He's now touted as a future captain. There's more to come from him for sure

I would doubt that - he started 23 league games last season and we finished 8th

I wouldn't say it is necessarily needed if someone else in midfield is that kind of player as well (like Tielemans, or like Eriksen if we got him etc.)

Having someone like him with a brilliant work rate that never stops running, and is great for getting the ball up the pitch and pressing from the front is a massive asset to have in a midfield

I expect he is going to be much more of a workhorse midfielder rather a than a goalscorer / playmaker anyway

Yeah, he wasn't a huge goal scorer on loan, but tbf he was unlucky this season with the goalpost or he probably would have had 2-3 more in all competitions.

I am hoping he just works on keeping the ball, and his passing decisions. Because as is, if he takes the Tielemans with Ndidi, then Maddison is going to have to drop deeper.

...get the RW in and we do not have to worry about KDH scoring or assisting goals!!!

It maybe great for him to occasionally hit the target, but so long as he is that anchor in the middle of the park,  it doesn't matter if he scores or not.

Perhaps goal scoring and assists,  are the wrong currency we are attempting to quantify him by.

Hard disagree. I think the opposite in that had KDH started in the team instead of the 10-15 games Soumare got in the team at the start that we’d have got enough extra points to squeeze into Europe.

He makes the players around him better because as a team we can play 10-15 yards higher up the pitch, and that’s what yields results and points.
