The best bit about this years euro games was different fans at games..  including kits holding up signs.  Big aplause to hamsa who took time to do selphies with the kids infront of b3.

When we were in the championship my lad used to shout players over for autographs.   I remember wellens... and i could almost see him thinking that this will come to an end soon.

Clubs need to build the relationship with fans.

The shirt begging cardboard signs are only a fire risk because of all the pyro at games these days...

I'd rather see the kids waving pyro

I wasn't with you until you mentioned that name, which I can't even bring myself to say. Still.

I've asked for an auto-censor, the mods do nothing

During a match you get about 50-60 signs during a matching request the same players shirt at the end of the day it's pressure on the player on who to pick and whose going to be disappointed. For me if you want a players match worn shirt then you should buy it from the club shop with the money going to charity.

The thing that ticked me over the edge was seeing a Twitter video of a man taking his dad to Man City few weeks back as he has bad dementia, and his dad was being filmed singing blue moon as he remembered the words, beautiful moment..

he was at the community shield the weekend and Foden went over after and gave him his shirt. All you could see was a couple of young twirps next to them, arms stretched out trying to grab it.. all stems from this sign begging nonsense..

maybe the stewards wouldn’t search or rip sign out their hands, but Ajax must have something in place..

Just buy your kid a baseball bat to make a demand with menaces in the car park

Or Nottingham Forest stickers?

I love this thread, so many possibilities

If I was a player and I saw a child with a begging sign I would go give my shirt to the nearest child to him

This happened at Bournemouth 3 or so years ago. A girl with a Madison sign was absolutely squealing as madders walked over closer and closer...

.... Then he handed it to the kid next to her. It was absolutely hilariouslol

I remember thinking the first time they made a big deal of a player giving their shirt to a kid with a crappy cardboard sign, this isn't going to end well. It's turned from something sweet and innocent to crass begging and I applaud Ajax for saying enough is enough. I think it is fair to assume every kid that's a fan would like a player's shirt, so if you're going to give your shirt away pick the kid that's spent all game cheering on the team not waving a crappy cardboard sign at a specific player every chance they get.

Sheez! Really? With all the uncertainty right now at our club I think kids asking players for autographs/ shirts & boots or whatever it is the least worry some.

As Pink Floyd once famously sang; “hey leave them kids alone!”

Good start. Next we need police snipers on stadium roofs to deal with anyone who runs onto the pitch looking for a selfie.

Now there is an idea...:celebrate:

Yeh and stop those sycophants who keep clapping the players and singing songs about them.

Or how about, don't want a sign... don't take one, if you see one look somewhere else

Well that's up to the player isn't it? He can ignore it if he wants.

He can't though because then the media will use those signs to beat him with 😂

Would much rather the shirts were auctioned off for a charitable cause than just handed over to a kid holding a cardboard sign that was clearly made by their Mum and/or Dad. If the parents are that desperate to get their hands on a player's shirt they can bid for it and help raise some funds for a good cause.

Easy to say until you're at a game and some kid if flailing half a 54" TV box unfront of your face and you can't see the match

The silver lining about the signs is that for every one kid that might get Maddisons shirt, there are 49 kids left with a useless piece of cardboard crying all the way home while the their pushy parents have to deal with the aftermath of their little spoilt brats tantrum for the rest of the day.

Poetically beautiful really.

TBF we managed to ban chanting and noise in general about 7 years ago 😂

Except that means the poorer kids will never experience the joy of getting a shirt.
