Not sure I get this deal - will it generate a saving on Stolarczyk‘s wages? Isn’t he just occupying a squad place for numbers sake?

Many fans including I don't agree with it either but almost all PL clubs go for this approach of an experienced stand in if the unthinkable happens where we get 1-2 injuries in the goalkeeper department. Seems highly unlikely but clubs don't want to take the risk and view £1-1.5m a year as the nature of the beast.

Why are some fans moaning about a third choice keeper coming in…….. lol

£1 million on the wage bill for literally nothing I imagine.

We have just lost a lot of experience in our goalkeeping department with Kasper and Jakupovic leaving

We currently have Danny Ward who at 29 has just 1 and a half seasons as a first choice keeper and just 103 senior club appearances, and Iversen who is 25 and has 163 senior club appearances, 3 and a half seasons as a first choice keeper, and half of which was in League 1/2

Smithies has 483 senior club appearances, and about 11 full seasons as a first choice goalkeeper, majority of which is in the Championship

The role of a 3rd choice keeper is to come in and be an experienced head, help train youngsters and help out in training drills, including attacking and striker drills where you are effectively cannon fodder - that latter is not something you really want your 2 main keepers or youngsters doing as it isn’t going to benefit them in anyway and would probably be bad for their own morale - but the keeper still needs to have a certain level of ability to be useful in training drills

Someone like Foster might have been a bit better for this role, but it depends on what they want as well.

He will probably play in the academy a lot too… just a useful addition to have knocking around.

We have a space, Stolarcyk will go on loan.

Regardless of that, club could have had an unregistered keeper(under 21) as third choice if we were really desperate for squad numbers, possibly?

Fan base full of Richard heads.

Let’s moan about a signing that is just a back up. And who cares what you’d rather have been done instead.

Percy has hinted we could have further movement if the named two players can be moved on, I’ll take that as a small positive.

The way some people go on, your households must be so depressing with you lot living there.

Hopefully Jakub gets the game time to help him progress we’ll be the ultimate beneficiaries of that.

Also do we not have to register 3 Gk’s in the PL?

I've made that point a few times but it's fallen on deaf ears lol

Most importantly, will he try to kick the ball to the corner flag during the pre match warmup?

Do not need a third choice keeper. If a crisis occurred on the unlikely scenario that Ward and Iversen both got bad injuries, then you’d just promote somebody from the U23s. Wages should’ve been spent elsewhere.

Can't wait for him to come straight in against Stockport, play a blinder, muscle his way into contention and cause a huge meltdown on here.
