It was just carried over from the last game, Bournemouth away at the end of the last PL season he was booed every time he had the ball (correctly). People don't just forget and not everyone is willing to give a "clean slate" to everyone, every season.

Obviously people won't forget and neither should they. I just don't see how booing or mocking (eg McCarthy on Tuesday) a player during a game is supposed to help the team. Those who do it tend to justify it by saying they have a 'right' to express their views, which they do, but I always wonder what benefit they think it brings when done while the players are on the pitch trying to win a game.

If memory serves we went on a long streak without conceding early in his time at the club.

 

Got spanked by Spurs but I think we went on a 7 or 8 game run without conceding, with Faes in defence and Ward in goal

McCarthy I would tend to agree, he's shit but I don't think he deserves to be booed onto the pitch. 

 

Others though deserved exactly what they got. They're all gone now anyway so hopefully it's something that won't be a factor moving forward.

I wouldnt assume those people were unaware that booing their own player wouldnt benefit anything.

I don't think he was ever excellent but he was popular after his first couple of games and looked like he'd be OK. 

 

Other than being poor in the air, Faes isn't a terrible a defender and he's decent on the ball. He wouldn't have 28 caps for Belgium if he was literally a pub footballer. 

 

He's just got mistakes in him, way more than he should. It took a few games when he first signed to really start making the kind of brainfarts that properly showed him up. 

 

And it was later on when his attitude started to go that the fanbase really fell out of love with him.
