What weekend will they be played then? It won’t be midweek next week will it. It’ll be midweek in a few months time.

Doesn’t say anything other than what we were already told which is they will decide this morning in meetings with govt 

we know that the PL will want to play games so if it’s left to the sports bodies to decide then PL football goes ahead. 
 

however, if all other sports shut down this weekend and only the PL is happening that really isn’t a good look

The postponement of games is pointless. Such an outdated idea that you must not do anything to show respect. It’s not 1925 and there’s no benefit for it given how congested everything already is.

Personally, I think why should a whole country be forced into mourning by cancelling majority of events (that a lot of people look forward to or need for mental wellbeing). The country shouldn't grind to a halt. On the day of the funeral, I fully accept that the whole country should be "free" to pay respects/attend/watch the funeral. Of course, key workers will still be working to keep the country running. Events should go ahead but with a moments of silence/appreciation as a minimum and potentially the events having other forms of tributes alongside. Much more powerful statement.

 

Think of all those who have made travel plans, hotels, work arrangements etc. Will they be refunded or will they suffer in an already stricken financial period? If they are refunded, are the companies expected to take the hit? Some companies are probably running on the skin of their teeth and it could mean the end.

 

Mourning allowed, of course. However, the greater picture needs to be considered when deciding on what happens in the next few weeks. Let's remember this is the first time in 70 years this has happened, unlikely that many people have ever experienced it.

Lets be honest, if the prem decides to play the games, the attendances will not be significantly down, so all the people virtue signalling here and other places could stay at home and mourn (unless they work of course),  but my guess would be that there wont be too many who choose not to go.

If they cancel everything for 10 days - then, you kind of are being ordered to stay in?  Showing respect is a personal decision.  If you - as I'm sure most do - want to show respect, there is nothing stopping you from doing so however you see fit.  You can forego movies, bars, football, etc for a day, 5 days, 5 months.  The government of a country deciding the death of a leader merits enforced respect by disrupting the lives of its citizens (when lives have been disrupted non stop for a couple years) - it's the definition of virtue signaling at best.  It's not your call to tell me I'm lacking respect for wanting to watch or go to a football match 3 days after somebody who had a top .0001% life in the history of humankind passed away.

We're not all religious.  "Keyboard warriors with no respect for anything except their own views and feelings"... I mean - you get that that's exactly what you are doing - right?  The difference is you are trying to enforce your views and feelings onto others who don't share that view.  While the people you disagree with are perfectly fine with you doing whatever you want.  If you don't want to watch LCFC this weekend, well - you'll probably end up having a better weekend than the rest of us.

When the helicopter carrying Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha crashed out of respect the upcoming  game against Southampton was cancelled, a couple of Woman’s games involving Leicester City teams and a game involving Oud Heverlee we’re  likewise cancelled 

Of course the loss of Vichai was mainly felt by Leicester City supporters but the loss of a Monarc will be massively impacting quite a large number of the population and if football doesn’t cancel this weekends games then sorry it’s lost it’s heartonce and for all

I don’t wish death on anyone, certainly not a woman with a family and I understand it’s devastating for her family and friends, but cancelling pubic events and only playing depressing songs on the radio for 2 weeks across the entire country for someone who inherited her job by birth is absolutely silly in 2022. Don’t really see what’s wrong with pointing it out, feels like a perfectly valid thing to be questioning that tradition to me.

That’s the thing about traditions ……start watering them down and within a short period of time, as a nation,  you’re left wondering where your historic and cultural heart is ….

 

if it snows heavily then games are postponed - there isn’t an outcry …… I think one set of fixtures can be put back as a mark of respect for the deceased monarch of 70 years .

I think the game should be cancelled but that's nothing to do with the queen's death. 

 

At the end of the day, plenty made travel plans and booked tickets. If it gets rescheduled and they can't go, do they get refunded? Same with the Mercury Prize last night - not my thing but an already struggling sector having to cancel an event last-minute isn't great. 

 

Football and other events should go ahead. Theatres and cinema are open. Shops are open. What makes football and sport so special?
