So instead of going footy i'll be forced to go Ikea, is this really what Liz would have wanted?

See you there 😂

No guidance from the government, then.

I wonder who will jump first

if a big organisation announce postponement then it makes it more difficult for others to go ahead. You would hope the the PL will lead on this as they are the largest audience participation events taking place .

I’d be very surprised if this isn’t postponed tbh.
I don’t think it should be personally. I can’t see how postponing sporting events can be a good thing for the country and I doubt very much it would be ‘what Liz would have wanted’?

But the FA will just postpone the matches this weekend I suggest because it’s the ‘right thing to do’..

Didn't Operation London Bridge get her sign off? I'm sure that if Sport is postponed then it'll have had her approval.

The government has no right to interfere unless there are safety concerns and specific reasons making it impossible to police sports events and especially football.

I agree. I just wonder whether the sporting bodies would have preferred to have been given clear instructions rather than allowed to decide themselves...

This is the problem with our country (and other countries also). Nobody takes responsibility for decisions in every department. Waiting guidance, waiting the managers to decide, waiting the pets to decide, wait, wait and wait until it's too late for everything.

Anyone with some sense of awareness would have known it would be a huge event in this country when the Queen died.

Suddenly it’s a surprise to everyone that events will get cancelled to show a mark of respect and it’s on the TV 24/7.

Well my eldest cat went against normal protocol and shat in the garden this morning …… so that means the games should go ahead

As above, this is an apples and pears comparison.

It really isn’t .

I get it that a first team was called off because players mayor did witness the crash but the other games were cancelled as a mark of respect.

The tour of Britain has been abandoned for one

Apparently Royal Hosehold requested that theatres stay open.

Cromwell closed them at the beginning of the English civil war against the wishes of King Charles I, who loved a good play. The ban lasted 18 years until Charles II promptly reopened them after the restoration. Good to see Charles III is upholding tradition.

Outdated and backwards if the football is canned this weekend. All this talk about us entering a ‘state of mourning’ is ridiculous, my question would be, why are people working today, if that is the case.

We need to just get on with it. If we were away this weekend and I’d have spent money on transport arrangements, I’d be fuming, people can’t just chuck £50 away.

If people are so sad, then stay at home, but I bet you anything, if the football is on this weekend, then grounds will be full. Please don’t take away a source of enjoyment for many and make the right decision.

Among other things, the Queen was associated with duty, getting on with life, unobtrusive respect and community values.

Cancelling community events, not getting on with life and engaging in a lot of OTT weeping and wailing would seem a strange way to honour her memory, wouldn't it?

Doubtless the day of her funeral will attract massive national focus. But for now, getting on with normal life and community events, meeting others and showing respect (minute's silence or applause, black armbands etc.) seems the way to go.

Re. the Queen's devotion to duty......well, it's certainly a fvcking duty and not a pleasure to go to LCFC matches just now.....the perfect tribute! :D

Absolutely no one is surprised by it, sadly. That’s kind of the problem.

Football should possibly be postponed (cant decide either way) but there is a line.

There was talk of the Great North Run being cancelled. I understand respect but surely things like that should go ahead, especially as is raises so much for charity and ths royals would happy enough.

They draft in resource from other forces.

Other events in London probably won't cover the scale of tourists and people that will visit London over the next few days/week.

I think there's an underestimation! This will be huge - there'll be millions across the time between now and funeral.

Nah, not this weekend.

For the funeral and for the days when she lies in rest then yes I get that, but this weekend there is nothing ‘to see’. There is no reason to think that there will be an influx of people that will require every football match across the entire UK to cancel.

The Prem will be sweating about getting two game weeks rescheduled in an already messy season. What with international break Leicester would be essentially put on a month long hold.
