Why postpone games? Like, literally, what is the actual point? Next week would be weird enough but this weekend? Just gesturing isn't it really? Are people actually just wanting to sit in at home crying with family? And if so, do they also want everyone else doing the same?

Life has to go on, you can still respect and mourn her whilst going on with your life.
Don’t get why everyone has to be miserable

Seems strange to impose certain businesses to have a period of mourning and make most other forms of life/work continue. I’d say now more than ever people need some form of release for their emotions.

Humour is coping mechanism obviously...

Or ignorance.

It's not about being miserable is it? Some people view it as respectful to postpone trivial games of football when there's been a seismic event. Other people say we should carry on and not let it dictate our lives for the next few weeks.

Merit in both arguments. Where there isn't merit is in some of the responses in this thread though, acting as though it's a personal attack on them  I mean, it's one game in 38, hardly a massive deal if it's moved. Would get it more if it's a cup final or an event that only comes around once a year (the PGA at Wentworth for example)

I believe that the funeral will be held 9 days from today, It will either be a Saturday 17th or Sunday 18th with a bank holiday on Monday and also a Bank Holiday when Prince Charles comes to the throne.

The Great North 5k run that was due to be held on Friday (tomorrow) has been cancelled. So has England vs South Africa's cricket at the Oval and Burnley vs Norwich and Tranmere Rovers vs Stockport County

I usually see myself as somebody that is absolutely correct on every post I make.

I get that football matches would be postponed if the whole country was shut down for a period of mourning however if everything else is open but just sport is postponed then that’s ridiculous.

Don't see what benefit England not playing South Africa in a cricket match as on anything. People will have spent a lot of money to watch tomorrow's play. unless the forecast is similar to today then it's probably a blessing.

All games are likely to be off according to the protocol that is now live (Operation London Bridge - written in 1960's)

I certainly don’t think it’s a personal attack on me and it’s not a massive thing to postpone but a football match.

I just don’t think that’s it’s necessary 🤷‍♂️

There’s no confirmation of a bank holiday, the government aren’t even going to force employers to shut for the Queen’s funeral.
