Still nothing from the Premier League but

Give them more time. They were caught by surprise. They didn't expect the Queen to pass away so young. They will make an announcement at midnight. Whatever they can do to put more stress to the daily lives of the citizens.

Anyone with some sense of awareness would have known it would be a huge event in this country when the Queen died.

Suddenly it’s a surprise to everyone that events will get cancelled to show a mark of respect and it’s on the TV 24/7.

Nobody is surprised, it's just stupid people only want certain things to stop.

We're happy to cancel events but you can carry on going to work lol

you’re making a joke but it’s sad that you’re probably not far from the truth !

Premiership rugby games including tonight’s are on. I know it’s not quite the same but maybe that’s the general direction we’re heading in?

Interesting …..

Nah, not this weekend.

For the funeral and for the days when she lies in rest then yes I get that, but this weekend there is nothing ‘to see’. There is no reason to think that there will be an influx of people that will require every football match across the entire UK to cancel.

I get where you're coming from, genuinely do.

I think this weekend will see the influx. That raw emotion where people just gather at Buckingham Palace and Windsor.

Look at yesterday, she hadn't even died yet but as soon as the news broke out that she was ill, she wasn't even at Buckingham Palace and yet hundreds, maybe thousands went there. Just to be there (I don't know why).

It’s fairly normal for sporting events though.

Anyone have watching the games last night on BT, it was plain weird to the point where it was way too much - there was this black BT logo with the most horrific non offensive music which went on a haunting loop.

By comparison I listened to BBC 6music this morning whom absolutely got it spot on. Minimal chat - by far done by one of the best in the business - and really good selection of good, calming music which didn’t necessarily go straight to grief filled lyrics

I don't think anyone wants to postpone but scared of any backlash if they don't. Need to brave IMO and carry on.

Think you are spot on.

I'd get it for the same day. I read yesterday after Diana's death that Liverpool got moved, not sure if they were playing on the day or day after.

But two days after seems extreme. According to records we lost to Everton on 9th Feb 1952, yet King George died on the 6th.

There wasn't Twitter back then.

It would be bad to postpone. Like others have said everyone is working today yet tomorrow if they postpone the games, what are the businesses that rely on match day footfall supposed to do? We barely get any Saturday 3pm kick offs so the pubs and food trucks etc will be massively out of pocket.

About the best decision the government have made in years. No doubt the Premier league will bottle it though

Same with local and regional football. The FAs are meeting and making a decision about this weekend’s fixtures. They’ll almost certainly postpone out of fear of not being seen to show respect.

Superb point. Restaurants, cafés and food trucks will have got a lot of their stock in. Pubs will be full of beer, etc.

It shouldn't need the government to tell people this, everything said there is common sense. Which I suppose is surprising coming from the government to be fair haha.
