Those sort of tackles happen every week in Sunday league.

They were part of the game years ago.

From Alves point of view, it’s unlucky but what happens on the the pitch, stays on the pitch. It wasn’t a great challenge but he was never going to get an extended ban for it. If you fall or twist incorrectly, he could have picked up exactly the same injury from a tactical foul.

So this makes it ok? Take the injury away from the incident, it's still a horrible, calculated tackle (hardly warrants that word) from somebody who had every intention of causing harm. Whether it happens on a football pitch or not should be irrelevant, but unfortunately it's not.

No it doesn’t.

However, if Alves gets off the floor, that tackle is never mentioned again.

I ruptured my ACL when I was 16 from a tackle from behind. It’s brutal but the reality is, that’s football.

It really isn't football. It's called a foul and punished because it is outside of the laws of the game. If an act is committed in a game, that is outside the laws of the game, it's not "football"

It's like someone boxing with rocks in their gloves and saying "well, that's boxing"

It was an horrendous challenge but my point is you may as well have the police on standby at every Sunday League game then, as it happens week in / week out.

It’s violent conduct basically, so a 3 match ban as a minimal. I think he picked up a 5 match ban for it? However Wolves sat him out for much longer.

By the way, I didn’t play Sunday League football for this reason.

I think what sets that "tackle" apart from other horrendous challenges that happen every week, is the intent.

You could see he meant to hurt Alves, whether that be born out of frustration or malice, that is totally unacceptable on a football pitch

I don’t disagree. It’s clearly with intent and shouldn’t happen, even moreso at that level. I personally don’t think it’s as bad Thatchers elbow, or even Keane on Haaland.

I hardly played for 4 years after I did my ACL the first time. Getting kicked, targeted etc was what I expected.

However I can also emphasise that the lad is 16 years old and has clearly made a mistake. Wolves seem to have handled the situation quite well by taking him out of the squad etc.

I don’t agree with someone of that age being punished for years but the end of the season would have seemed appropriate.

I believe he didn’t play again that season. Got called up for England U18s the following and was red carded on his debut. Learned his lesson then.

I’ve just looked and you’re right.

He was red carded in the last minute for pulling down the last man when England were 4-0 down.

He was also sent off at the weekend I believe.

I 100% agree.

If he gets his chance by Enzo and he plays as good as he looks it’ll be like a new signing and another headache for Enzo’s Team selections, the lads done well coming back from a horrendous injury to still play like he’s on fire FairPlay to the lad !

Got to be careful, building this guy up because he looks good on a 10 second clip - he's come back from an almost career ending injury, he may never be the ''same'' again. He needs time to get fully fit and confident with his knee, then the odd senior appearance will do him good - he looks too fragile for Championship football at the min - so Enzo will know how to manage him. I think a handful of sub appearances this season would be a good starting point.

People will be tearing into him and booing him after a few games knowing our fans anyway.

Alves is rightly highly rated, but I'd be surprised to see much of him this season at all. He's only just 18 and is tiny. How's he cut out for the Championship?

He's now got the physical stature to cope with 1st team football. Once the fitness is built up and they're happy with his knee, then he's ready. The club would be foolish to hold him back.

Braybrooke close to a return with the U21s too. Hopefully next week.

Rick is right. If you watch the latest video made by lcfc Alvez has bulked up. The sheer amount of gym work and weights he’s been doing isn’t just all for his legs. It’s been like a year hasn’t it? So he’s also growing and getting taller. He’s been well looked after by the club. We all just have to be patient a little while longer.

He’s clearly got great technical ability. He just needs time like you say.

Is he 'tiny'? Can't say I know much about him, but there's a a photo of him taking instructions from BR before his he came on against MK and he's quite a bit taller than Brendan.

Yes I know BR is about 5'5, but still! lol

Doesn't look particularly skinny either, and that's before his injury.

I find the chat on Alves' size a bit baffling really. He looks like he's ready to me, and no more lightweight than, say Yunus or Kasey.

...he is not skinny, he has bulked up a bit and looks like he is eager to catch up with what was lost!!!

Braybrooke is the one that needs the additional physicality and I hope that he will develop as much as Alves.

Much better to tear into him before he's even played for us.

Core strength is not something that’s obvious just looking at someone

i mean Perez looked a decent physical specimen but was blown over in a light breeze

Yeah, you just need to look at the likes of mahrez and Vardy. Also remember seeing David Silva a few years back, and he's absolutely tiny.
